Job Title: Food Shelf Client Services Assistant

Status and Hours: Part-time, non-exempt, 20 hours/week, 8:30AM-12:30PM

Location: Senior Food Shelf, 1801 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis MN 55418

Reports to: Food Shelf Coordinator

Wage: $16.00/hr

Position Summary: Provide excellent service when assisting clients. Maintain food shelf inventory and storage in accordance with agency and health standards. Receive incoming food orders and donations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibility includes, but not limited to, the following:

Provide client services (75%)
1. Greet clients and issue numbers.
2. Ensure client eligibility by finding Client Record in Client Track and checking for prior services for that month.
3. Assist client in choosing food items, explaining options and any limitations.
4. Weigh and record outgoing order.
5. Enter services in Client Track.
6. Provides back up coverage to enroll new clients.
Maintain food supplies and other inventory (15%)
1. Assist in receiving food shipments from suppliers by unloading pallets onto carts and bringing carts to food shelf room. Ensure that orders are counted correctly and any discrepancies are noted on shipping documents.
2. Assist in unloading donations and bringing into food shelf area. Weigh and record all items. Sort and dispose of unacceptable items.
3. Place all incoming products into appropriate storage areas, ensuring perishable items are stored at proper temperatures. Arrange storage so that oldest products are used first.
4. Keep the display shelves well stocked each morning and at other times as needed.
5. Notify Food Shelf Coordinator on a regular basis of inventory levels so that new supply orders can be made.
6. Oversee the work of volunteers.
Maintain clean work areas (5%)
1. Maintain a neat and orderly work area and keeping food shelf up to Minneapolis Health Department standards for cleanliness and safety. Assist in cleaning food shelf and waiting areas each day.
2. Assist with scheduled defrosting and cleaning of refrigeration equipment.
Communication (5%)
1. Answer incoming telephone calls and provide information or referral as needed.
2. Attend staff meetings upon request.
3. Maintain good relationships with clients, Minneapolis Public Housing staff and other partners in the building

Perform other duties assigned by Food Shelf Coordinator.

Qualifications

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and 30 lbs frequently and have no physical restriction precluding heavy lifting and bending.
Must be self motivated and able to work cooperatively with other ESNS staff and volunteers.
Must be able speak and read English. Being able to speak Somali, Oromo or Spanish is helpful.
Must be able to relate to people of varied ethnic, cultural backgrounds, ages and economic circumstances with respect and consideration;
Must be able to take initiative and be responsible to organize daily work tasks.
Must maintain client information confidentiality.
