The Human Rights Organization Community Center Director for El Puente Berry Street is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing programs and services that address the needs and aspirations of Berry Street residents. The Human Rights Organization Community Center Director will play a critical role in promoting community development and self-determination at the Berry Street Houses.

Who we are:

Founded in 1982, El Puente is a youth-centered organization that uses the arts and education to advance social and environmental justice. Its mission is to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice, working as a human rights institution in NYC and Puerto Rico with national and international impact. El Puente creates community-led movements of self-determination through a holistic leadership and membership program model, as a high-impact youth and community development organization. As a staff member of El Puente, the Development Manager is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management

Lead the development of a comprehensive program strategy that aligns with the needs and goals of Berry Street residents.

Collaborate with the Berry Street Residents Association in overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse set of programs, including educational, recreational, social, and support services.

Ensure programs are culturally inclusive, serving residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Create systems of evaluation to ensure programs are being adjusted based on residents’ participation

Community Engagement and Outreach

Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and local community organizations to identify needs and opportunities.

Engage residents in the program planning process, fostering a sense of ownership and participation.

Develop and maintain effective communication channels to keep residents informed about available programs and resources.

Organizational Responsibilities

Attend staff development and organizational trainingaligned with El Puente’s mission and platform.

Support organizational campaigns aligned with El Puente’s mission and platform.

Qualifications

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

A commitment to social justice, equity, and improving the lives of marginalized communities.

Leadership skills, including team building, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.

Location:

This is a full-time position based in Brooklyn, NY.

Salary and Benefits:

$59k annual salary and benefits package, including health and retirement.
