Compensation: $75,000 - $87,000 annually (equivalent to $125,000 - $145,000 full-time), DOE, excellent benefits package
Supervises: Communications/Development Staff and Contractors
Classification: Exempt .6 FTE (3 days/week)
Schedule: Monday-Friday (2 days onsite and 1 day remote after intro period), and occasional weekends

Position Summary
Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships leads the organization’s fundraising strategy outside of public funds, driving revenue growth to advance mission-driven programs and long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a doer, with a proven ability to cultivate high-impact partnerships, secure significant private philanthropic support, and deepen donor engagement. This role is well suited for a development professional with strong experience in fundraising and grant writing, and a demonstrated ability to build and steward relationships with institutional and individual funders. A passion for FCC’s mission and a strong understanding of the Bay Area philanthropic landscape are required.

The successful candidate is a creative and analytical thinker who is highly effective with both people and data. They are self-directed, collaborative, and able to contribute to both strategy and execution as part of the leadership team. Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, editing, project management, and organizational skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Lead Fundraising Strategy and Growth

Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to advance the organization’s mission and achieve annual revenue goals.
Oversee a diversified portfolio of funding sources—including major gifts, foundation and corporate grants, annual giving, partnerships, and special events—while identifying new opportunities for growth.
Monitor fundraising performance and trends to inform strategy and ensure sustainable philanthropic support.

Build Transformational Donor and Partner Relationships

Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, foundations, corporate partners, community leaders, and other strategic partners.
Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization, representing its mission at external meetings, conferences, and events while building strategic partnerships that deepen impact and expand resources.

Drive Grant Strategy and Institutional Giving

Direct grant development, including prospect research, consultants, proposal development, submission, and reporting.
Maintain strong relationships with institutional funders through proactive communication, stewardship, and engagement, ensuring timely acknowledgments and compliance with grant requirements.

Strengthen Team Leadership & Communications Alignment

Supervise and mentor the Communications Coordinator, ensuring that communications, storytelling, and marketing initiatives support fundraising priorities, strengthen donor engagement, and elevate the organization’s impact and visibility.
Ensure that donor communications, campaign materials, and outreach effectively convey the organization’s impact and inspire philanthropic investment.

Lead Development Operations and Team Performance

Oversee development systems and processes that support effective fundraising, including donor and grant tracking in Salesforce, performance monitoring, and budget management.
Supervise and mentor development and communications staff to ensure strong execution and collaboration.

Partner with Leadership to Build a Culture of Philanthropy

Partner closely with the Executive Director and Board to set fundraising priorities and build a strong culture of philanthropy across the organization.
Engage board members, staff, and volunteers in development efforts and contribute to organizational initiatives that strengthen internal systems and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
7–10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or strategic partnerships, including major gifts, grant writing, and corporate partnerships.
Demonstrated success cultivating and securing major gifts ($50,000+).
Proven ability to develop and implement effective fundraising and partnership strategies.
Strong grant writing skills, with experience securing foundation and corporate funding.
Strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape, particularly foundation and corporate giving.
Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging donors, board members, and community partners.
Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
Experience with donor databases and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Experience with budgeting and fiscal management.
Knowledge of nonprofit grant development and familiarity with social justice–oriented work.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, leadership, and board members.
Experience supervising staff, interns, or consultants.

Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment with Pre-K and Afterschool Programs on site. Work is scheduled weekdays, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work to support community events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and crouch. The employee must lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and, on occasion, may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. This job requires extended periods of time at a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
