About Us

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, pronounced RIZ-dee) is among the highest-rated fine arts colleges in the US. The private school enrolls about 1,300 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers a variety of fine arts and design programs including art history, apparel design, architecture, jewelry, industrial design, film, printmaking, textiles, and painting. The college also offers continuing education through classes, lectures, workshops, gallery talks, and a six-week pre-college program designed for high schoolers. Notable alumni include David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, and Chris Frantz of the Talking Heads. RISD was founded in 1877.
