JOB SUMMARY

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has been committed for more than four decades to the goal of ensuring our work engages with and represents the full American experience. Since launching the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund (AACHAF) in 2017, the National Trust has raised over $95 million; has supported more than 300 preservation projects nationally that represent centuries of African American activism, achievement, and resilience; and is helping to lead a movement that uses preservation as a force for enacting positive social change. An important part of that work has been the expansion and engagement of new and familiar audiences with the mission of the National Trust.

The Senior Director for Social Impact & Marketing Strategies will be a leader within the Marketing Division and will work with other internal and external partners to provide strategic leadership in marketing and press outreach, digital engagement, messaging, branding, content creation and partnership building to advance the goals of the Action Fund. Under the leadership of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Senior Director will ensure that all strategic directions are aligned with the priorities of the Action Fund as defined by the Action Fund Executive Director, aligned with the National Trust�s strategic priorities, and well-integrated into the Marketing Division�s channels.

DUTIES

As a Senior Director within the Marketing Division, this position will direct all AACHAF strategic communications strategies and outreach to ensure consistency in AACHAF messaging, branding, and design across the organization�s full Black heritage work.
Develop and implement communications planning and strategy for the AACHAF, manage external consultants supporting this work, manage the AACHAF�s marketing budget, and create strategic digital marketing initiatives which will consistently activate and grow an existing file of 200,000 AACHAF emails.
Act as AACHAF lead on editorial, social media, and campaigns, and direct marketing campaigns tied to projects that generate momentum and engagement for the work of the AACHAF.
Lead the development and execution of thought leadership plans for the Action Fund Executive Director that further positions his expertise as a national voice in the U.S. historic preservation movement. This work includes (but not limited to), media interviews, external speaking opportunities and events.
Direct the work of various media and creative agencies and influencers to further the mission of the AACHAF in alignment with the National Trust�s brand strategy.
In collaboration with the AACHAF, Marketing team, and Development, develop social impact partnerships to increase program visibility, support, and impact.
Create public relations strategies and press releases, draft communications plans, and develop new and innovative ways to talk about the AACHAF�s impact across multi-channel marketing platforms.
Provide monthly reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and AACHAF Executive Director on the marketing performance, metrics, and strategies.
Monitor, track, and analyze the impact of and responses to messaging, investments, and trends and leverage insights to inform data-driven proactive/reactive approaches.
Meet regularly with the Chief Marketing Officer and AACHAF Executive Director and participate as a full member in AACHAF team meetings.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

At least 15 years of professional level experience, including experience in fields of marketing, communications, media relations, corporate partnerships, and advocacy messaging and at least 7 years� experience with budgeting, staffing, and leading teams to generate high quality results.
At least 7 years of experience managing large, cross-functional projects and teams, preferably within a national level non-profit setting.
Demonstrated experience successfully managing key internal and external stakeholders.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills (including issue identification and prioritization) are essential for this role, plus the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
Advanced project-management, team-management and client-management skills.
Effective presentation skills. Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills, as well as strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Proven ability to collaborate across departments to implement processes and achieve results with minimal supervision. Track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with multiple stakeholders. When working in the office, public contact and ability to work successfully in close proximity to others required. When working off site, ability work effectively in a remote environment, maintaining productivity and communications to meet deadlines and goals, is required.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion. Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions required. Able to handle frequently changing and/or unscheduled tasks with accuracy.
Entrepreneurial spirit and skill set a plus.
Demonstrated cultural competency and success in engaging historically under-represented communities, constituents, partners, and colleagues. Ties to African American affinity groups, professional organizations, or related associations are a plus. Comfortable talking about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, and gender in plain, specific terms as they relate to cultural heritage, equity and social justice. Background in DEIA work a plus.
Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of African American culture, history, and cultural heritage preservation.
Proven ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (including Word, Excel and Power Point) and experience with social media and design technologies required.
Regular and reliable attendance in person or virtually, as appropriate, is required.
Some or Frequent travel required.

PAY & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt level position, eligible for full benefits, including health, dental and life insurance, retirement benefits, and 3+ weeks of vacation, plus sick time and holidays.

Hiring Range: $135,000 - 145,000 per year
