JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overseeing the operation and success of Siloam Mission’s commercial laundry social enterprise. The focus of this position will be to ensure that the laundry facility is run effectively and productively, and to lead and encourage individuals experiencing homelessness in there re–entry into the work force.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate operations of Siloam Mission’s social enterprise (Siloam Laundry Services).
Lead a team of participant employees in washing, drying and delivery of customer laundry.
Ensure Laundry delivers professional cleaning service to customer.
Manage timetables to ensure linen, mentoring and leading participants in the washing of laundry.
Build customer base for social enterprise; Mentorship of participant employees.
Facilitate the employment re-training of participant employees who are on a path of transitions from homelessness to stability through the social enterprise.
Work alongside participants to set and accomplish their personal goals relating to employment and life.
Build meaningful connection and relationship with participant employees to aid in their transition out of homelessness.
Manage behavioral issues that may arise on-site in an appropriate manner.
Monitor, evaluate and communicate progress to participants and Building Futures Manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Social Entrepreneurship or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience in leadership, marketing is an asset.
Experience in business planning and business start-up.
Experience coaching adults.
Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
Experience with social justice, conflict resolution and facilitation skills

Knowledge of issues facing individuals experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg and the resources that are available to this population.
Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use.
Good working knowledge of the employment resources available in the community.
Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous peoples.
A compassionate and empathetic outlook and ability to convey these characteristics in relationship with clients.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with community members.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work within a harm-reduction framework.
Ability to work from a trauma-informed perspective.
Demonstrated ability to problem solve creatively within a team and individually to accomplish tasks and goals.
Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
Highly developed understanding of and proven ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries.
Ability to engage in moderate physical activity including walking and standing for sustained periods of time.
Knowledge and understanding of WHMIS & CPR would be an advantage.

WORKING CONDITION

40 hours per week.
Lifting of up to 50 lbs. + frequently.
Work requires standing and walking over extended periods of time.
Working in a warehouse setting.
Outdoor work in all weather conditions will be required occasionally.
Will need to use forklift and drive van occasionally.
Will need to clean (sweep, mop, disinfect, etc.) work areas as needed.
May handle dirty/soiled linen/laundry to be washed.
May be required to dispose of used sharps.
Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members.
Must have a valid Class 5F driver’s license, a clear driver abstract, a vehicle in good condition, and be willing to drive participants to appointments.

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health.
Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services.
Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
