Job Purpose: The Parent Educator is responsible for visits to all children on their caseload. Parent Educators will utilize a research based curriculum (Parents as Teachers) to assist the families during their visit. Parent Educators will work with parents to engage and involve them in the child’s development.

Primary Duties:

Provides home visits to children and their parents or primary caregivers. Home visits are typically 90 minutes per visit and consist of using approved research-based curriculum to assist children with meeting developmental milestones and encouraging school readiness.
Parent Educators also work with parents or primary caregivers on parenting skills and encouraging their involvement in their child’s development.
Understands, supports and coaches others in the Parents as Teachers model
Assist in creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity, mentoring, and teamwork
Maintains clear, effective, honest communication
Creates, maintains and support a safe environment for open discussion
Maintains confidentiality
Seeks feedback
Accurately assesses own learning needs and develops strategies to meet them
Complete all assessments, notes, and reports within the timeline set by the Home Visiting Program Manager
Report to Program Manager any case of suspected child abuse or neglect and assist with hotline call when necessary
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years of previous supervised work experience with young children or parents.
Desired: Minimum qualifications plus an advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a Human Service field and/or previous experience with home visiting and/or working directly with infants and toddlers.
Miscellaneous: Pass all pre-employment drug screens, health screens, and background clearances, driving clearances, basic computer skills, enough physical strength to provide direct supervision and assistance to children in classroom, standing for particularly long periods of time, repetitive bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must complete all trainings required by Spero and Parents as Teachers.
Skills: Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and respectful manner in the community, ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule, ability to engage and relate to children and families of all cultures and backgrounds, ability to respectfully conduct visits in the home, ability to maintain client confidentiality and HIPPA compliance, common sense in preforming job, basic computer and technology skills, ability to work independently and as a team.
