DescriptionThe Philanthropies Department (PHI) helps to invite individuals and families to follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ, as they live the two great commandments to love God and their neighbors. Giving helps members and others experience the joy and blessings of participating in God’s work as they choose to follow inspiration and prophetic direction. To do this, PHI facilitates and invites voluntary philanthropic giving (beyond tithes and fast offering) for programs and projects approved by the First Presidency. PHI teaches, engages, coordinates, invites, and reports regarding voluntary philanthropic contributions to the Church and its affiliated charities.
The role of Mgr, Gift Planning Sr. manages a professional advisor portfolio, teaching advisors about philanthropy in the Church, and assisting donors and their advisors with deferred and estate gifts to build the Kingdom. Responsibilities include people management, including regular one-on-ones with direct reports, team meetings, training, and HR coordination, as needed. Developing and maintaining relationships with Gift Planning Leadership Council (GPLC) members, coordinating with the GPLC to teach philanthropy principles, advocating to other advisors, and planning for Gift Planning Council Conference (GPCC) in even years. Additionally, the role requires overseeing and driving growth and marketing strategies for deferred gift donors and advisor constituencies, reviewing and evaluating success measures, modifying strategies as needed, and reporting to the Directors Council. Coordination with partners such as the Directors Council, Deseret Trust Company (DTC), Legal Counsel, Institutions, society chairs, and donor liaisons is essential.
This is a first-level people manager over a team of expert-level individual contributors.

ResponsibilitiesThis Mgr, Gift Planning Sr. position leads the Gift Planning Services (GPS) team and spends their time Teaching (25%), Engaging (30%), Coordinating (35%), Inviting (5%), and Reporting (5%) in support of strategic coordination and invitations to participate in inspired giving experiences.

Teach (25%)
1.Supervise and evaluate GPS team members, teach various financial, legal, tax-efficient and policy-compliant methods for philanthropic giving to donor liaisons and donors and their professional advisors to maximize the donor giving experience, teach the process of philanthropy in the Church to donors' professional advisors, demonstrate familiarity with case statement details for approved priorities and projects to share with donors' professional advisors.
Engage (30%)
2. Develop and maintain a portfolio of professional advisors and deferred gift donor relationships according to geographic assignment (model this behavior and hold team members accountable for their individual portfolio assignments), develop relationships of trust based on professionalism and content knowledge and create meaningful experiences for professional advisors to help their donor-clients have a personalized giving experience.
Coordinate (35%)
3. Coordinate with colleagues and institutional and service partners, manage resources (personnel and budgets), assist assigned Director with pipeline development, data analytics, donor relationship management and fundraising integration across functions and priorities.
Invite (5%)
4. Invite by assisting donor liaisons, donors and professional advisors in the preparation of meaningful gift proposals by applying financial, tax, legal and policy knowledge to the development of gift proposals.
Report (5%)
5.Report regularly to leadership, professionals, colleagues and professional network on the potential impact of deferred gifts from donors.
QualificationsRequired:
• Must uphold and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Church and its affiliated charities, be ethical, and demonstrate professional demeanor at all times and in all situations.
• A Juris Doctorate (JD) and 10 years or more of relevant experience in gift planning
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in sensitive situations with administrators, directors, department/institution leadership, and professionals.
• Ability to keep confidences and to serve as a trusted advisor and resource for professionals working in estate planning efforts.
•Proven writing skills and a significant working knowledge of current legal parameters and precedents for estate and gift planning laws in the United States.
• Ability to diplomatically manage multiple projects and people effectively and efficiently.
• The ability to work with other individuals and groups, including donors, civic, business, and professional leaders.
• The employee must regularly manage the work of other employees (may include mixed workforce).
• The employee is authorized, in partnership with HR, to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line.
• Professional in demeanor, appearance and language, with English verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to provide appropriate direction and receive and act upon feedback in a timely manner.
•Understanding and experience with international laws and precedents for estate planning in countries outside the United States.
• Experience with donations-in-kind (stock, real estate, non-liquid assets) and financial planning
• Non-profit organization or fundraising experience.
• Demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to clients including prospects, donors, institutional leaders, professional advisors, and Philanthropies (PHI) colleagues.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to travel and interact with individuals in a variety of locations, availability to be physically present for on-site meetings and team collaboration efforts.
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, repetitive motion for typing and filing.
