JOB SUMMARY:
The Doula Educator provides prenatal/postnatal education to our prenatal parents under the Home Visiting programs. Providing birth support that is trauma-informed, culturally responsive and centers the lived experiences and families. Works under the home visiting programs manager’s supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support a positive customer service experience and timeliness of communication for all participants who interact with the program.
• Provide mentorship support to the team Preventive Initiative and Early Head Start home visitors ensuring consistency of competencies and service delivery.
• Provide on-call and backup birth support, as needed.
• Lead Prenatal monthly workshops
• Lead weekly doula meetings with a focus on program protocol, team building, self-care and trouble shooting.
• Lead community engagement activities focused on recruiting pregnant participants and providing education on the benefits of doula support.
• Support the coordination of schedule coverage.
• Provide ongoing education and support to Gads Hill Center participants and community.
• Provide on-call or emergency birth support on occasion to birth doula clients.
• Ensure documentation of all service provision.
• Attend ongoing educational topics and training for doula skills development.
• Represent Gads Hill Center and the doula programs in local, regional, and national meetings and on committees/working groups as needed and assigned.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
• Passion, energy, and drive.
• Knowledge of the competencies and scope of practice for birth and/or postpartum doulas.
• Ability to provide education and direct support to program participants and their support (partners, other family members, medical providers, etc.)
• Knowledge of prevention strategies needs and risk assessment and family systems.
• Understanding of community and service delivery systems.
• Ability to motivate and guide participants to keep appointments, obtain goals and take advantage of services.
• Ability to work with multi-cultural participants/agencies.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and analytical skills.
• Must be able to prioritize and multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow instructions, take direction from management and comply with the boundaries of the established policies and procedures, while embracing the importance of contributing new ideas.
• Ability to meet deadlines and process assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Work well under pressure and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to travel within the city of Chicago.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all Gads Hill Center employees are responsible for the following:
- Participate in agency outreach and recruitment events, including evenings and weekends.
- Participates in supervision meetings and workshops within the agency and outside (if applicable).
- Participates in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of Gads Hill Center.
- Advance parent leadership development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a trained doula with 2+ years of experience serving our target population, certification preferred. Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and a passion for maternal and child health, with an understanding or willingness to understand public health concepts and health disparities.
- Must understand or be willing to understand the current and historical context of birth work and doula support with a level of cultural humility in working with the target population.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English required.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
- Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
- A Must have a valid Driver’s License and be willing to travel locally.
- Have passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
POSITION DETAILS:
Entry Rate: $50,000-%55,000
Schedule: Full time
