Summary:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Substance Use Services Counsellor is responsible for case management and providing resource-based counselling to individuals and their families who are experiencing problems with substance misuse. The Counsellor dedicates time to program development and implementation of prevention activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide counselling to individuals and families to support them in current risk management and to increase their effectiveness in dealing with future concerns and challenges related to substance misuse. This will include:
- Working collaboratively with the persons served to provide case management, risk assessment, goal setting, planning, counselling, referral, closure and whereappropriate, follow up.
- Participating in Integrated Case Management and/or acting as case manager, to work with the person(s) served to coordinate/collaborate with other service providers and stakeholders.
- Maintainingappropriateandtimelydocumentation, client informationsystemand other tracking systems.
- Facilitating or co-facilitating group counselling, includingsettingand implementing group goals and desired outcomes, structures, program content and set up of physical environment.
- For those whoparticipatein the Internship Program, providing instruction, regular supervision of an assigned intern and ensuring the Intern’s adherence to agency policy and practices.
- Participating in regular quality assurance reviews, case and team consultation/supervision and meetings as.
- Participating in program development.
- Liaising with and referral to community agencies, committees, and professionals.
- Participate in and support agency activities, vision, mission, and values.
- Ensure that work practicescomply withagency health and safety standards, program policies and procedures and administrative records are complete,timelyandaccurate.
Education and Experience
- Master’sdegree incounselling, social work,psychology,or a related field.
- A minimum oftwo(2) yearscounselling experience with substance misuse issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- The Counsellor understands and can apply resource-based counselling.
- Has the capacity to work from more than one modality to respond to each unique client; is knowledgeable about solution focused counselling theories and practices and case management, hasdemonstratedwritten and oral communication skills.
- Has the ability to engageclients,demonstratescreativity with case planning, program development and supervision, shows flexibility in responding to changing conditions and is a committed team player.

Location: Port Moody
Hours: 35 hours per week, to be scheduled in consultation with supervisor. Some evening hours may be required
