Book Harvest—an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to providing books for every child, support for every parent, and literacy for every community—is seeking a Bilingual Literacy Coach to join our Book Babies team, Forsyth.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $44,895 to $56,000, commensurate with experience. Book Harvest employs an experience-based pay model with predefined salary ranges and annual opportunities for salary growth. Salaries are determined exclusively by years of relevant experience. Book Harvest does not inquire about prior earnings nor negotiate salary offers as part of our commitment to pay equity.

Position Overview
The Literacy Coach, Forsyth, is an integral part of our Book Harvest team, responsible for supporting all aspects of the Book Babies program by providing books and literacy-rich home visits to children and their families from birth. This role will partner with families in creating a home literacy environment during their children’s earliest years by providing quarterly literacy coaching visits to approximately 80-85 families each year.
The Literacy Coach is a highly visible member of the Book Harvest team who brings strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, and creativity, and consistently represents the culture and core values of Book Harvest to our volunteers, partners, and community.
The Literacy Coach works based out of Imprints Cares at 711 Coliseum Plaza Court in Winston-Salem, NC; reports to the Associate Director of Early Literacy, Forsyth; and works most closely with other Literacy Coaches, including in other counties. This is a highly mobile position, as the majority of time is spent conducting home visits with families in Forsyth County. In-person meetings and collaboration with Book Harvest colleagues in Durham, NC, require the equivalent of one day per month (including travel). Typical work hours span Monday-Friday and may include evenings and occasional Saturdays to meet family scheduling needs.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
Literacy Coaching (70%)
- Execute quarterly, literacy-focused home visits with a required caseload of 80-85 families in Forsyth County, including scheduling, preparation, travel, and follow-up communication.
- Model and coach caregivers in effective reading strategies, utilizing the Book Babies curriculum to reinforce at-home language and literacy development.
- Conduct and document key developmental and reading assessments during home visits as required by the program model.
- Actively participate in weekly reflective supervision with the Associate Director to process home visit experiences, discuss challenges, and ensure continuous quality improvement.
Data Management and Program Compliance (10%)
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry for all home visits, family contacts, enrollment, and program milestones into the established organizational database.
- Maintain organized and confidential family files, tracking all required compliance documents and permissions.
- Track monthly mileage and reconcile program expenses in a timely and accurate manner.
Community Engagement and Event Coordination (10%)
- Coordinate, attend, and actively engage with families at all Book Babies community meetings and special events (e.g., storytimes, graduations, resource fairs).
- Represent Book Harvest and the Book Babies program at local community events and meetings to support outreach and enrollment efforts.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director and local partners to identify new family recruitment streams and ensure family retention.
General Administration (10%)
- Actively contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven culture through staff, departmental, and supervisory meetings.
- Contribute to a strong, inclusive culture by actively supporting DEBI initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, participating in annual learning opportunities.
