We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Associate to join our growing Not-for-Profit practice. This role will focus on providing tax compliance and consulting services to a variety of tax-exempt organizations, including public charities, private foundations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and other nonprofit entities.
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in exempt organization taxation, strong technical skills, and the ability to manage multiple engagements while delivering high-quality client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, and 990-T, along with related state filings
- Prepare unrelated business income tax (UBIT) calculations and supporting workpapers
- Assist with research and analysis of tax issues affecting exempt organizations
- Support advisory projects involving: Public support testing; Private foundation compliance; Intermediate sanctions and excess benefit transactions; State charitable registrations
- Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve questions
- Assist with IRS notices and correspondence
- Train and mentor interns and staff accountants on engagement responsibilities
- Manage assigned engagements to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university required
- 3+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with a focus on not-for-profit taxation required
- CPA license or working toward CPA certification preferred
- Experience working with large exempt organizations
- Experience preparing complex tax returns and supporting documentation
- Working knowledge of tax laws and regulations impacting exempt organizations
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Experience training and mentoring junior staff
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to effectively manage workload and deadlines across multiple client engagements
- Proficient with MS Office Suite and tax research platforms (e.g., CCH, BNA, RIA); Knowledge of ProSystems FX preferred
Compensation & Benefits:
The compensation for this position ranges from $80,000 - $90,000. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills, and certifications.
