DescriptionAdvocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a fun and outgoing, very independent gentleman with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on his volunteer goal both at home and in his community. The ideal candidate should love animals and be able to focus the volunteer jobs on pet/animal related positions in the community such as grooming, vet office assistance, pet walking, animal farm chores, pet accessory sales, making items to take to donate for animals in need, or working with shelter animals.
Goals include:
• Assist to Volunteer in the community - Research local volunteer opportunities that include working with pets/animals in some capacity. Make community connections while learning how to be socially appropriate and reciprocate in conversations with potential volunteer employers.
Seeking a DSP who is reliable, enthusiastic, creative, and active. If you are involved with the Humane Society and/or the local SPCA’s this is a plus! Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred. Please respond with resume or summary of experience.
Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.
Hours and days of work
Monday and Thursday (9 AM - 4 PM). Start time and hours can be flexible. The selected candidate must be able to cover both days.
Full-time opportunities may be available.
Pay rate: $30.00 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour.
Location: Skaneateles, NY

- Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.

- Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
