DescriptionDuties/Responsibilities: To assist the Program Coordinator in assuring high quality, professional, and safe implementation of the Avanza Program onsite. Facilitate curriculum around workforce development based on four soft skills: Social-emotional (teamwork), communication, critical thinking, and self-control/positive self-concept. Will supervise large group of students (ages 12-18 years) in age appropriate curriculum. Be alert and sensitive to individual needs of the program participants and follow all health/safety/risk management practices. Assist with the recruitment and implementation of the Avanza Program. As directed by the Program Coordinator, facilitate workforce development curriculum with large group of students as well as assist community partners in the implementation of curriculum that develops soft skills of students. Assist with the training of Facilitators. Contribute ideas, skills and talents to program development and enhancement, and to student interests and operation. With guidance, and under supervision, implement academic and enrichment learning activities following prepared lessons. Observe and manage student behavior according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior. Know and follow the core values of the YMCA-caring, respect, responsibility and honesty with students, parents, co-workers, school staff and volunteers. Integrate these character development values into daily activities. Follow guidance in integrating asset-building strategies into the daily activities. Be alert and sensitive to the individual needs of the students. In attempting to meet those needs, guide them in all areas: mentally, academically, physically, emotionally, socially and ethically. Relate to the students with respect, love, kindness, and concern; always be ready to listen, and to provide students with positive input to build healthy self- images. Maintain professional boundaries with students at all times. No fraternization is permitted outside Y sponsored activities/programs.
Set up and put away equipment (inside or outside) as needed. Clean storage rooms, classrooms, outside areas or any other areas used/assigned. Do not leave trash/debris in any area used. Assure that daytime program teachers and school staff expectations regarding shared classrooms, other school spaces, and equipment are met; guide students in respecting school facilities and equipment, so that they are left in the same condition as when found. Prepare materials for student activities; e.g., mix paint, set up lesson materials, clean paint equipment, and clean other items as necessary following art activities. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Hours: Part-Time/Non-Exempt. Should be available Monday-Friday from 2:00pm – 6:00pm; Hours will vary and there may be earlier start times as needed. Average hours per week: 15-20 hours. There may be reduced or no hours during school district days off throughout the school year and during school holiday breaks and/or summer months.
Wage: $18.00 per hour.

QualificationsQualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess at least a High School Diploma or G.E.D. One year of college or work related experience. Ability to demonstrate the use of soft skills proficiently: communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and positive self-concept. Ability to use typical business software and office equipment. Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff. As a YMCA Business Driver, the employee must possess a valid/current CA Driver’s License or other valid state driver’s license and must provide to the Y proof of minimum CA vehicle insurance coverage upon request & must also maintain an approved/acceptable driving record. An annual MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) will be conducted by the Y. Employees who are YMCA Business Drivers who do not maintain an acceptable driving record may be prohibited from being a Business Driver which could affect employment status. Must submit to and comply with all requirements for employment including, but not limited to, a criminal background check, drug/alcohol testing, health screening, TB test. Must have, or be willing to receive, First Aid/CPR/AED Certification classes within the first 30 days of employment and keep current as a condition of continued employment.
