The opportunity:
The YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka is looking for an individual with a professional, caring and inclusive attitude to fill the role of Employment Specialist – Resource and Information. This position will provide service to customers in their independent job search, and provide in-depth information on the job search process, its tools, and related information, in workshops, information sessions, and one-on-one, either virtually or in person. This includes the ability to support customers on computers, including word processing and troubleshooting.
This is an in person role located in Midland Ontario.
In this role, you will:
Welcome clients to the centre, ensuring they get appropriate services for their needs
Assist clients in the self help area, adhering to self help guidelines
Answer the phone, directing callers to the services they need
Complete appointment call aheads to remind clients of their appointments
Monitor the general email, forwarding or answering emails as required
Secure all locked storage at the end of each day, including locking and securing exterior doors
Develop and maintain knowledge about local employers, their business, and what they look for in new employees
Work with employers regarding job postings; follow up and rebook or cancel as required
Maintain and update job boards, both in the centre and online, sourcing a variety of jobs
Maintain computers and troubleshoot basic issues
Support job coaches with resume development, mock interviews, etc., for their clients, as needed
Complete, update and prioritize all required paperwork, case notes and documentation in a timely manner, as required
Maintain and create content for online platforms including posting on FB weekly – job postings, community messages, etc.
Multitask and adapt to evolving government directives
Maintain updated knowledge of local, regional and broader labour market information, and how to access in-depth information as required
Identify and develop tools to help customers understand the changing labour market and its impact on the job search process.
Develop and conduct job search/employment related workshops and information sessions
Maintain the resource area with up-to-date resources
Observe changing needs within the existing services and look for creative new opportunities to expand them
Participate on the Job Fair committee with other community service providers, as required
Be able to work independently while maintaining team cohesion
Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
Represent Employment Services and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka as per standards outlined in the YMCA personnel policy
Understand the Performance Management model and the Service Quality Standard and its composition, and actively work with the employment team to attain, maintain, and exceed that standard
You bring:
Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Excel, the internet and comfortable with new and evolving technologies and social media
Minimum college level diploma in administration, adult education and training or social sciences, or related field preferred, or 2 -3 years’ of relevant work experience
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Experience working in an environment where service is being provided to the public, and experience delivering outstanding customer service
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the job search process, including new and evolving methods of self-promotion used by job seekers
Knowledge of major online job information and career guidance sources for all major industries and vocations
knowledge about the community and its businesses and services, as well as current insights as to what is influencing the local labour market
Ability to meet deadlines and a keen sense of urgency and attention to detail
Ability to problem solve and manage crisis situations
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Self-motivation and an aptitude to be a strong team player
Class G license and access to a vehicle is required
Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
