Job Purpose:
- The Assistant Group Supervisor at YMCA of Reading & Berks County is responsible for supporting the lead group supervisor in managing and overseeing the daily operations of seasonal programs. This role is crucial in ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational environment for all participants, fostering their personal growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead group supervisor in planning and implementing program activities that align with YMCA's mission and values.
- Supervise and engage with children in a variety of activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Support the development of age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote physical, social, and emotional growth.
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents, guardians, and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of program materials and equipment.
- Monitor and enforce safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a secure environment for all participants.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers and junior staff members as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance program delivery and personal development.
- Assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
QualificationsRequired Education:
- A high school diploma, or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field.
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in 3270.31 (c)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or a human services field and 1 year of experience with children
- A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in 3270.31 (c)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
Required Experience:
- Previous experience working with children in a supervisory or educational setting.
- Experience in planning and implementing group activities or programs.
- Familiarity with the YMCA's mission and values is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Problem-solving skills to address and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and foster a positive team environment.
- Basic knowledge of child development and appropriate practices for age groups served.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain.
