DescriptionThe J Camps Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for the inclusion in J Camps of campers with a variety of developmental, sensory, communication and behavior challenges. The J Camps Inclusion Coordinator will work with the families and the camp directors to ensure success in the J Camps environment. This position will help with the hiring and supervision of staff who are serving in roles that are directly related to campers who need support services or accommodations.
REPORTS TO: Camp Director
PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Work with the Director of Children and Camping to evaluate and assess a camper’s readiness and ability to be successful in J Camps

Work with the families prior to the summer to determine an action plan for what success at camp looks like

Communicate with teachers, therapists, or other support systems to completely understand what a child’s needs during the summer will be

Serve as an integral part of the summer J Camps staff training team

Facilitate extra staff training for those counselors working directly with children who need accommodations

Participate in hiring of Inclusion Advocates

Setup a safe space for those campers who need to remove themselves from the camp group

Supervise Inclusion Advocates, check in with them regularly about their campers

Communicate with parents as needed about issues that arise

Serve as a resource for Camp Directors who are struggling with camper behavior

Participate daily in carpool and other all camp procedures

Other work as assigned- Hours: 5 hours/week in May; 40 hours/week June 1-August 7
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, child development, teaching or another related field

Experience with children who receive accommodations or special supports

Team Player

Hard and independent worker

Excellent communication skills

Some night and weekend hours may be required

Must be able to be mobile and visit multiple camps throughout the day
