DescriptionU.S.VETS is seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Behavioral Health to lead clinical services that support veterans experiencing homelessness, trauma, mental health challenges, and substance use disorders.
The Director of Behavioral Health provides strategic and clinical leadership for behavioral health programs, mental health services, and substance use treatment within U.S.VETS outpatient programs. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role oversees clinical teams, ensures high quality care, supports program development, and strengthens partnerships with community providers and funders.
This role is ideal for an experienced Clinical Director, Licensed Therapist, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC with a passion for serving veterans and leading multidisciplinary behavioral health teams.
What You Will Do
Lead Behavioral Health Programs
• Provide leadership and oversight of all behavioral health, mental health, and substance use treatment services
• Supervise Program Coordinators, Licensed Clinical Therapists, and clinical staff
• Facilitate weekly clinical and case management meetings to support coordinated care
Ensure Quality Clinical Care
• Establish quality standards for mental health and addiction treatment services
• Implement and monitor quality assurance and continuous improvement processes
• Ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards
Provide Clinical Supervision
• Conduct individual and group supervision for licensed therapists and clinical staff
• Develop supervision schedules that meet licensing and program requirements
• Support clinical staff development and competency based performance standards
Oversee Program Development
• Collaborate with leadership on new behavioral health program initiatives
• Support grant funded programs and ensure compliance with funding requirements
• Maintain strong relationships with community partners and funders
Manage Clinical Operations
• Oversee clinical documentation and medical billing processes
• Ensure adequate clinical staffing and coverage across programs
• Manage and supervise the U.S.VETS clinical internship program
Qualifications• Master’s degree in Social Services or a related field required.
• Independent clinical licensure preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of employment in an executive level clinical role at U.S.VETS may substitute for the licensure requirement.
• Minimum of three (3) years of management experience overseeing multiple programs and supervising personnel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer systems and information technology applications.
• Demonstrated professional demeanor and presentation.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients, staff, and community stakeholders.
• Knowledge of or experience working with veterans strongly preferred.
• Ability to travel locally between program sites as needed and periodically travel nationally for conferences or training. A valid driver’s license is preferred. Employees who drive company vehicles must meet company insurance requirements and complete the required driver training course.
