About the role
We are seeking a motivated and organised Sector Lead – Water & Waste to join Standards Australia.
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Water & Waste, this role supports the delivery of standards development activities across an assigned portfolio.
The role combines structured project coordination with proactive stakeholder engagement, supporting the effective operation of technical committees and the progression of standards proposals, projects and international participation.
Working closely with the Senior Manager and engaging with industry stakeholders, committee members and internal teams, the Sector Lead contributes to the development of high-quality standards that support safety, innovation and industry outcomes across Australia.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will support the coordination and delivery of standards development projects while maintaining strong stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
The role supports the development, maintenance, and review of national and international building standards, with a focus on water and waste services. This includes standards referenced in the National Construction Code (NCC) Volume 3 – Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA).
The role provides project, committee, and stakeholder support across the full standards development lifecycle. Working with technical committees and industry stakeholders, the role supports standards relating to plumbing systems, water supply, drainage, and stormwater, ensuring projects are delivered within scope, timeframes, and established procedures.
The position contributes to the development of key NCC-referenced standards (including the AS/NZS 3500 series) and supports consultation, ballot, publication, and international engagement activities, while maintaining accurate records.
The role facilitates committee discussions, responds to stakeholder enquiries, and will build capability to support the ABCB WaterMark Certification Scheme, promoting the adoption of safe, compliant, and innovative plumbing systems aligned with public health, water efficiency, and productivity outcomes.
About you
You are a highly organised professional who enjoys coordinating projects and working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- A strong interest in developing expertise in the building and construction sector, with a willingness to build capability in the plumbing (water and waste services) sector
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, NCC‑referenced standards within the Plumbing Code of Australia (including the AS/NZS 3500 series) and associated regulatory frameworks
- Interest in, or willingness to develop capability in, supporting the ABCB WaterMark Certification Scheme.
You will bring:
- Experience in project coordination, administration, stakeholder support or similar roles
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within deadlines
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience facilitating meetings or supporting committees or working groups
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholder groups
- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience
