The Opportunity
The YMCA offers career development services to youth, and
this year we are excited to launch Youth Trades Camps. The Trades Connect
Program introduces youth ages 11–15 to various trades as potential career
pathways. Trades Connect Leaders will be responsible for facilitating and
supervising daily program activities.
Responsibilities
- Career
development support — Work closely with Nova Scotia Works staff to learn
about career development
- Assist
with advertising the camp and participate in the youth selection process
- Collaborate
with colleagues to finalize agendas and coordinate guest speakers
- Participate
in pre‑camp training and support both on‑site and off‑site activities
- Help
resolve conflicts and promote a positive, respectful environment
- Support
participants in completing camp activities and assignments
- Ensure
YMCA safety protocols and Child Safeguarding Practices are followed
- Demonstrate
interest in learning about trades and career pathways
- Organize
snacks, transportation, and supplies for camp operations
- Complete
daily reports documenting activities, attendance, and challenges
- Communicate
effectively with staff, participants, parents, and community partners
- Work
collaboratively in a fast‑paced team environment
Qualifications & Skills
- Clear
Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (if 18+)
- Clear
Child Abuse Registry Check
- Valid
First Aid and CPR certification
- Must
be currently enrolled as a student and returning to school in the fall
