Location: Regional Learning Center Torrington
Position Overview
The Regional Learning Center in Torrington is seeking a dedicated, reliable Full-Time Custodian to join our facilities team. Working under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, you will maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our staff and the children we serve.
- Shift: 1:00 p.m. � 9:30 p.m.
- Calendar: Year-round (Annual Calendar)
- Location: Torrington, CT

Major Responsibilities
Daily Maintenance & Cleaning
- Sanitize assigned zones: Clean, sweep, mop, and vacuum offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and restrooms.
- Manage waste: Execute trash removal and recycling according to agency procedures and local laws.
- Event setup: Set up and break down furniture and equipment for scheduled events.
Security & Safety
- Secure facilities: Perform a shift-opening walkthrough and fully lock down the building at night.
- Ensure compliance: Maintain clear storage areas and follow rigid fire safety protocols.
- Inspect gear: Monitor facility equipment and log conditions using daily checklists.
Maintenance & Emergency Response
- Perform light repairs: Handle minor, routine maintenance tasks independently.
- Escalate issues: Identify and document complex issues requiring professional trade technicians.
- Provide backup coverage: Cover shifts for scheduled days off, weekends, or short-notice facility needs.
- Respond to emergencies: Arrive on-site in a reasonable timeframe for urgent after-hours facility issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
Physical Demands
- Heavy lifting: Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Mobility: Continuous bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and standing.
Logistics & Flexibility
- Transportation: Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel.
- Scheduling: Flexibility to shift hours (early, late, or weekends) on short notice.
Skills & Attributes
- Experience: Prior commercial or school custodial experience is preferred.
- Child-safe aptitude: A positive attitude and suitability for working around children.
- Professionalism: Strong interpersonal skills, reliable judgment, and consistent attendance.
- Task management: Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and problem-solve independently.
