The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners ("TAP") is a non-profit organization and was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to provide supplemental services that enhance core academic programs which are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSUDH is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. CSUDH is one of 23 campuses that comprise the California State University System.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development in the division of University
Advancement (UA), the Scholarship Specialist will play a critical role on a team that generates
transformational change, benefiting CSUDH students and faculty for generations to come.
The successful candidate will oversee the distribution of philanthropic dollars designated by
generous donors to scholarship funds benefiting CSUDH students. The Specialist will interface with
multiple departments and external organizations to accomplish stated objectives and foster a
collaborative partnership with the Office of Financial Aid and with Toro Auxiliary Partners (TAP) to
ensure that philanthropic scholarship dollars are spent expeditiously and in line with all applicable
regulations and donor criteria.
A large portion of the position’s responsibilities will relate to a record-breaking $22.1 million
philanthropic gift to CSUDH for the Toros Teach LA (TTLA) program that helps address California’s
severe shortage of early childhood educators by preparing, graduating, and placing culturally
competent, racially diverse teachers and leaders in schools across the Los Angeles region.
Successful candidates for this role would have prior experience in the following areas, including
but not limited to, scholarship award processing, financial aid, donor relations, and/or grant postaward
in university’s offices of sponsored research & programs.
This grant-funded position is contingent upon the renewal of the 6-year grant funded to this
position.

Range $61,000 - $66,560
Duties and Responsibilities:
50% Building Infrastructure
- The first year will have a heavy focus on building the proper infrastructure for the scholarship
award process.
- Establish and maintain an optimal process and infrastructure for “post-award” activities for UA with a particular focus on the TTLA program and other philanthropic scholarship accounts managed on behalf of the CSUDH Philanthropic Foundation by Toro Auxiliary Partners (TAP)
- Coordinate with leadership of the TTLA program, Financial Aid, Student Financial Services, and existing scholarship committees and scholarship liaisons to help create and optimize speedy, thorough, and equitable scholarship award processes as defined by existing scholarship gift agreements and all applicable rules, regulations, etc.
- Build an effective line of communication and routinely collaborates with the TAP accountingmanager and other accounting staff, college fiscal officers, UA teams (donor relations,advancement services, frontline fundraisers), Financial Aid staff, and TTLA staff
- Work with the TTLA team and other key stakeholders to define scholarship objectives and identify, develop, and implement appropriate scholarship award processes
- Monitor and ensure that all requirements of donor-funded scholarship gifts/grants are faithfully and diligently carried out during the duration of gifts/grants
- Meet daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines and carry out responsibilities related to those tasks
20% Monitoring Balances and Reconciling Accounts
- Perform financial reconciliation of assigned philanthropic accounts, monitor progress, and assist in completing financial and programmatic close-out requirements for scholarship gifts/grants
- Actively monitor balances and expenses in the philanthropic scholarship accounts to budget; extract data for reports
- Read, analyze, and interpret complex data and guidelines, and design and implement processes to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the flow of data to streamline the scholarship disbursement process
20% Reporting
- Build reporting structures and patterns and generate routine reports requested by staff,
- Respond to requests for data and analysis as needed in preparation for requests from administrators, donors, program managers, etc.
- Maintain documentation of all data prepared for and released to donors
- Maintain confidentiality of student financial records in accordance with federal regulations
- Prepare data for letters to donors and review various information for accuracy
- Update skills for increased proficiency with various online platforms
10% Other duties as assigned
Special Working Conditions:
Occasional evenings and weekends. Operating a golf cart may be needed at times.

MinimumQualificationsandExperience:
The following describes the ideal experience and attributes a successful candidate will offer:

- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in scholarship processing, financial aid, donor relations, or post-award sponsored programs in a non-profit setting
- Demonstrated experience with starting new initiatives and/or assessing and improving existing processes with an eye on customer-centered outcomes, especially in the area of scholarship awards.
- Prior experience collaborating with a wide variety of internal stakeholders across multiple divisions and departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of fundraising processes and donor relations best practices
- Extensive experience with project accounting. Must demonstrate interest and willingness to learn new aspects of post-award project administration
- Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and evaluate project budget and expenditure data with assigned philanthropic accounts
- Excellent analytical, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Must be able to work cooperatively across divisions and departments in a strategy-driven way
and with a customer service mindset
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and interact with a diverse clientele up and down the organization to provide the highest level of customer service to internal and external audiences
- Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to take initiative, set priorities, and proactively manage deadline-driven projects, with the capacity to perform assigned tasks independently
- An ability to reconcile accounts, complete donor financial reports, and project closeouts
