The overall objective of this position is to support the individual needs of the shelter guests. Services provided should result in safe, normal living situations for guests where self-direction, integration into the community and the development of independent daily living skills are integral and continuous aspects of everyday life
Essential Functions:
- Client Care Specialist is expected to have actual, intentional contact with every shelter guest (as feasible) throughout the course of each shift
- Provide face to face support and intervention in multiple settings including, but not limited to the Friendship Center, shelter locations and motel sites.
- Engage shelter guests in appropriate educational, vocational, and life skill programming
- Work with team to plan, implement, and support engagement activities facilitated by internal staff and external partners
- Ensure the safety and whereabouts of guests at all times and ensure security of buildings and property are maintained
- Performs intakes, discharges, answers phones, assists in the operating and basic needs of the guests in the program
- Provide specific trauma informed services to assist guests in successful outcomes
- Conduct hourly rounds
- Perform daily routine cleaning, documentation and engagement activities
- As directed by program leadership, may assist in documentation for guest files, incident reporting, daily census, progress notes, etc
- Assist guests to accomplish plan outcomes or goals, and develop collaborative relationships with other community partners for guests support
- Commit to engage in personal and professional growth and competence development, participate in organization training activities to increase capacity to serve guests every day
- Keep supervisor fully informed at all times
- Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. John’s Community Services policies and procedures;
- Ability to act as a representative of St. John’s Community Services to the public;
- Thorough knowledge of program practices and procedures;
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, representatives from other agencies, and the general public
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to effectively supervise, train, evaluate and communicate with program staff;
- Ability to research, prepare, review and maintain reports and documents;
- Ability to use sound judgment when making decisions;
- Ability to pass a criminal background check; and
- Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.
- Must be dependable and able to report to work in a timely manner and work a flexible schedule outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays
- Is approachable, builds rapport well and practices attentive and active listening

- All CCS positions require that the staff stay awake and remain on site at all times during the shift.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires does require physical effort in including cleaning, pushing, pulling, moving objects, etc.
Work environment involves risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions e.g. safely operating a motor vehicle, exposure to aggressive human behavior.
