SUMMARY Under general direction, is responsible for planning and teaching Art Classes and facilitating participation in community art opportunities in accordance to the needs and preferences of individuals served.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Community Specialist - Art will include, but are not limited to the following: � Creates lesson plans and conducts art classes at day program sites and in the community. � Orders and maintains art supplies. � Assists programs in organizing staffing, transportation and logistics for community based art activities such as museum and gallery tours, art shows and classes given in conjunction with community partners. � Creates compelling and attractive flyers to advertise upcoming opportunities. � Along with the other Art Specialists, works to create a digital database of art created by program participants. � Ensures that services are rendered to individuals with utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy and confidentiality. � Submits artwork and related paperwork for inclusion in art contests and gallery shows. � Identifies community arts and cultural organizations to collaborate with, and venues for potentially showcasing artwork created by artists. � Implements universal precautions at all times. � Participates in in-service training programs as requested. � Provides supervision and guidance to Direct Support Professionals during art classes and community events. � Keeps abreast of changes in the field. � Performs other related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. � Ability to read, write, speak and understand English � Excellent oral and written communication skills � Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines � Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software � Good interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, individuals served, employees, parents and outside contacts � Ability and willingness to travel to various program sites
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE � Bachelor�s Degree � At least six months of experience with individuals with disabilities.
COMPENSATION - $19-$29.00 hour plus industry leading
