Electrical Engineer with experience and working knowledge of electrical systems engineering and controls. This position will report to the Senior Director, Engineering and will consist of duties such as electrical systems design, fabrication, integration, and testing. The successful candidate will provide Electrical Engineering support to multiple programs. Individual responsibilities include electrical and electronic detailed hardware, software, and firmware design and development. Other responsibilities include supporting manufacturing by preparing specifications and developing test methods. Data analysis, report writing, creating graphs and charts from information and engineering calculations are also required. Individual should also be comfortable presenting technical summaries of findings to peers.
The duties of this position will involve design of electrical systems for a broad base of applications ranging from friction stir welding control systems, ground vehicle hybrid development, custom testing equipment, ammunition production control systems, and other unique one-off solutions for DoD or commercial clients. Candidate will develop design concepts, calculations, sensor selection, and other pertinent information required to complete the assigned electrical and control activity. Candidate must be able to produce and review drawings and documentation of designs and see them through to operational success. Candidate will be required to work closely with project teams consisting of CAD and Shop technicians and be a part of teams consisting of other mechanical, electrical and materials engineers. Candidate will interact with vendors supplying control system parts and will define the design process. Candidate will be required to assist in scheduling tasks and estimate labor hours and materials costs for design development and prototyping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical control system development for operational and process installations
- Perform and review hands on wiring of electrical panel and machine needs from one line and layout diagrams.
- Program HMI, PLC and embedded controllers for process installations
- Ability to program in multiple languages (Basic, C, Assembler, Python, etc.
- Integrate advanced power electronics (DC/DC, AC/DC)
- Support technical aspects of operational project activities
- Support analysis and development of prototype systems
- Prepare and review electrical schematic, one line and system layout drawing development
- Prepare and review specifications for sensors and system integration
- Perform engineering studies and evaluations of prototype systems
- Prepare cost estimates for system development
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent, with 6-8 years of experience OR a master’s degree with 4-6 years of experience
- Have a high level of hands on capability for electrical panel and machine wiring development
- Have a strong understanding of analog circuits and theory
- Experience in machine control
- Ability to configure complex hardware and firmware to bring designs to life
- Skilled in AutoCAD or other Engineering design software
- Skilled in electrical modeling systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of software applications such as Matlab, Programmable Logic Controllers programming, Labview, C++ and Visual Basic
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification
