Parallax Advanced Research is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit research institute based in Dayton, Ohio. As the Director of Business Development, you will be working with the CEO of Parallax, the VP & Division Manager Intelligent Systems, and Parallax clients. When working with your team, you will be supporting the Parallax mission through business development with a focus on research and development (R&D) solutions near-term, currently identified challenges, as well as longer-term envisioned research needs. This includes defining and implementing business development policies, procedures, strategy, process for go/no-go bid decisions, and capture execution.
In addition to that, a typical day-in-the-life of the Director of Business Development includes:
- Creating/Identifying and capturing significant near- and long-term R&D funding opportunities in areas of strategic interest.
- Leveraging, developing, and maintaining network relationships with a variety of key stakeholders.
- Conducting and supporting complex teaming and strategic negotiations on own or as part of a professional team.
- Providing and developing an understanding of long-term market forecasts, trends, and competitive positions to maximize advantages while executing strategy.
- Providing input and mentorship in internal business development processes
- Managing 3rd party partnerships including working with government, industry, and other academic partners.
- Managing business development projects.
- Providing strategic input into research and development portfolio based on trends, forecasts, and competitive opportunities.
- Potentially build and manage a BD team based on market opportunity, growth, and capture.
Ideally, you are looking for your next long-term challenge and have these skills:
- Bachelor of Science
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in Engineering/Science or a related field.
- TS Clearable
- Demonstrated knowledge of research and development business and procurement transactions including, but not limited to: DARPA, AFRL, ONR, AFOSR, LCMC, NASIC, ARL, IARPA, and other government and industry research and development organizations.
- Demonstrated prime and subcontract business development experience in government R&D organizations such as those listed above.
- Demonstrated practical negotiation skills and additional competencies attributed to complex, multi-issue, and multi-party transactions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator and listener with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills with demonstrated ability to perform proposal writing/pitch preparation on own.
- Experience successfully selling in Washington (DARPA, IARPA). This requires experience selling into a research environment and experience in selling in the government space.
- Active relationships with external networks or major industry bodies
- The ability to gather leading practice insights, and discuss new trends, directions, and unique teaming opportunities.
- The knowledge and ability to understand long-term market forecasts, trends, and competitive positions to maximize advantages while executing strategy.
- Must be willing to take risks to prime activities.
- Must have the background to provide the capture support to create a successful prime bid.
Furthermore, do you have, or want to develop these skills?
- Bachelors in Engineering/Science or Business Degree. Degree
- 20+ years of experience in Engineering/Science or a related field.
- TS/SCI cleared.
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard industry business development processes such as the Shipley Capture and Proposal Processes
