Our client, The Center for Michigan, publisher of Bridge Michigan, seeks a Business Development Lead to establish connections and negotiate advertising sales and sponsorship deals with current and prospective sponsors and advertisers. The role involves researching, identifying, prioritizing, pursuing, closing, and managing underwriting and sales agreements with new and existing clients.
The ideal candidate is passionate about the state and its people and can succeed in a small, mission-driven, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment. The successful candidate will join the team in their commitment to providing dedicated and rooted Michigan readers with honest, fact-driven journalism on the state's diverse people, politics, and economy.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing innovative and competitive strategies to meet or exceed quarterly and yearly revenue goals
- Cultivating relationships with new sponsors and advertisers through various networking and outreach tactics
- Building and maintaining relationships with existing sponsors and advertisers
- Collaborating with Bridge Michigan's fund development team to design and iterate on inventory, meeting clients' needs
- Negotiating and finalizing sponsorship and advertising agreements
- Coordinating with fund development and production teams for fulfillment and reporting
- Leveraging virtual and in-person events for sponsorship opportunities
- Identifying, tracking, and reporting on prospective sponsors and advertisers
- Tracking and recording all earned revenue activity in Salesforce
Qualifications:
- Previous consultative business development and/or sales experience, ideally in the field of regional advertising or marketing; Challenger sales experience a plus
- Proficiency working with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
- Experience working in digital/website advertising programs and marketing campaigns preferred
- Strong comprehension of--or openness to quickly learn about--independent nonprofit organizations and journalism
- Willingness to travel within Michigan, embracing the opportunity to connect with people and cultivate positive business relationships
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience in business, marketing communication, or a related field

The Center for Michigan offers flexible work arrangements. The compensation structure for this position is comprised of a base salary + annual incentive bonus; the targeted total compensation for this position begins at $80,000 annually. Their offices have a casual environment and respect work-life balance. The person will work at the Center for Michigan's Ypsilanti office in a hybrid work-from-office/work-from-home environment, spending approximately two (2) days a week in the office working with other Center staff.
