Birribee Housing (Birribee), is a community-driven organisation committed to providing safe, secure, and culturally appropriate housing for Aboriginal people to practice self-determination and meet their social, cultural and economic needs.
Birribee have been awarded funding from the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to co-design and deliver a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) to meet the housing and homelessness needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in the Western Sydney region. The primary objective of this SHS funded services is to ensure people who are experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, are supported to achieve safe and stable housing in the community.
Whilst in this co-design phase, the team at Birribee are looking for a Team Lead to join this passionate team. The Team Lead will work in cohesion with the Homelessness Services Lead, Community Engagement Officers and Case Workers to support first nations people and assist in supporting this specialist service. This role will operate as a mobile service covering Local Government Areas in the Western Sydney with areas Identified as Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith.
Working hours will range between 6am until late, as required.
This role is pivotal in shaping and supporting community and key stakeholders to increase Birribee’s capacity to deliver outcomes that improve the health and wellbeing for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and take ownership of the client index management system (CIMS)
- Engage with LGA community members and assist with program establishment
- Case planning and management
- Connecting clients to wrap around support services
- Supporting clients to access rental subsidies
- Liaising with the community members to listen and understand their needs
- Provide advice, advocacy and mentoring
- Provide support to the community in the way of short term, medium term or long term housing
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with domestic and family violence and correctional facilities
- It is essential that the successful candidate for this role identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
- Understanding client index management system (CIMS)
- Experience working with people with complex needs
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Unrestricted Drivers Licence
Desired criteria
- Qualification in Social Work or other relevant tertiary education
- Experience with rostering, budgeting and resource allocation
- Experience working with the community and / or a strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture
A fleet vehicle will be available for use as part of this position.
To be successful in this role, you must have your drivers licence, be willing to undergo a police check and obtain a Working with Children Check.
