POSITION SUMMARY
Provides excellent customer service while conducting donor registration, donor interviews, limited physical assessments, whole blood collection, collection of apheresis components using Alyx and/or Trima and apheresis recruitment and rebooking of donor appointments for allogeneic, autologous, therapeutic and other ‘special’ patients. Monitors donor/patient recovery and provides adverse donor reaction care management. Responsible for use and care of various pieces of equipment and performing daily quality control. Responsible for success and oversight of the collection operation in the absence of a site supervisor (or when requested by management).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Treats customers (internal and external) with dignity and respect in a friendly and professional manner.
Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance and safety issues to the attention of management.
Maintains good attendance and punctuality in accordance with the attendance policy.
Performs all duties related to the collection and handling of blood and blood products (e.g. computerized medical history screening, whole blood phlebotomy collection, handling donor recovery and adverse reactions, loading, set-up and tear down of equipment, packing and handling of blood products and performing daily quality control).
Conducts health history interviews, blood/apheresis collection on autologous, therapeutic and other ‘special’ patients.
Collects apheresis pre-donation samples, donor retest and other samples as requested.
Performs single and multi-component apheresis collections procedures using Alyx and/or Trima
Works as part of a team to achieve daily team production goals.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills in accordance with current customer service standards to represent a positive image for the company.
Maintains complete and accurate records related to donor procedures, quality control, cleaning records and training documentation.
Actively recruits donors for apheresis donation and educates donors regarding promotions and new initiatives (e.g. ExpressPass, LifeStream App).
Works at mobile and/or fixed sites in support of production goals and meeting patient blood needs.
Responsible for oversight of collection operation in the absence of a supervisor.
Performs responsibilities and functions of a site lead including proper documentation of daily activities, monitor donor flow, ensure staff follow time clock procedures including taking proper rest and meal breaks.
Serves as a preceptor and mentor for trainees assigned for hands-on practice. Reports trainee progress back to the Training Department.
Performs Collections Final Review (CFR) duties, including Donor History Card (DHC) review and apheresis review using guidelines as assigned. Refer to Collections Review LVN job description.
Performs other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.

NATURE AND EXTENT OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION
The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities and deadlines, assisting the employee with unusual situations with no clear precedents. Employee plans and executes steps to complete the assignment, following instructions, policies, and previous training or accepted practices. Completed work is evaluated for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy. Occasionally, the supervisor sets overall objectives and resources available, with deadlines and work plans developed in consultation with the employee.
