Summary:The Line Chef of The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary plays a pivotal role in culinary operations under the guidance of the Manager, The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary. This position involves managing food ingredients, conducting inventory assessments, and placing orders to ensure seamless daily and weekly operations. Responsibilities include food preparation, effective communication with The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary staff, and strict adherence to food safety guidelines. The Line Chef will actively participate in special events, showcasing dedication to creating exceptional culinary experiences. This role is an integral part of the Experience Team, providing onsite support and serving as an ambassador for the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee cafe inventory by efficiently managing the ordering and receiving of shipments, ensuring a smooth, efficient supply chain for daily and weekly operations.
- Review production schedules to determine food requirements, including variety and quantity of food for preparation and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily cooking activities.
- Season and prepare a wide variety of foods according to recipe requirements, including vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, faux meats, and baked goods, following recipes and the guidance of the Manager, The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary
- Use of cooking methods, including slicing and grinding faux meats and vegetables.
- Test cooked foods for quality and ensure food preparation meets legal specifications and organizational quality standards as directed by the Manager, The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary
- Communicate, with the direction of the Manager, The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary, with staff about current specials, products, and needs.
- Store, date, and rotate food in designated containers to prevent spoilage
- Prepare baked goods according to recipes and specifications
- Complete production sheets and other records as required
- Maintain clean work areas, utensils, and equipment
- Adhere to New York State Guidelines for food safety and sanitation
- Works special events, as required
- Attend to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detect and ensure disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and other unusual conditions.
- Manage The Kitchen at Farm Sanctuary Guest Support Staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Food Safety Manager or NY State-approved Food Safety Certification
- Strict adherence to state and organizational safety, cleaning, and supply standards
- Versed knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards
- Adept in compiling and reporting data
- Proficient in the receipt and verification of goods and adept at addressing issues with precision and effective communication
- Expert organizing and coordinating skills
- Team player with a willingness to help others
- Effective communication with others in a respectful and productive manner
- Flexible, with a positive attitude
- Able to follow directions and complete all tasks as assigned
- Proactive “customer first” service attitude
- Reliable and dependable
- Proficient knowledge of vegan food ingredients to share/educate with staff and guests

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Work could involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, fumes, and smoke.
- Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- The work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring basic safety precautions.

- Pay: $20.00 per hour, plus tips
- Farm Sanctuary adheres to a non-negotiation philosophy regarding compensation and benefits outside the posted pay in our commitment to equitable hiring practices.
