Peer Recovery Specialists are responsible for:
- Providing support to the criminal justice involved client both while in-custody and post release
- Serving as a role model by exhibiting long-term stable personal recovery and use of appropriate coping skills
- Conducting group sessions and assisting clients with goals for recovery
- Consulting with other treatment team members
- Providing resources to assist with recovery and transition
- Traveling throughout State to provide peer support services to clients in SUD treatment
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Former participant in a substance abuse treatment program and demonstrated long-term stable recovery
- Therapeutic Community experience desired
- Certified Missouri Recovery Support Specialist-Peer (MRSS-P) as required by the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB)
- Current driver’s license and good driving record
- Must be able to obtain Missouri Department of Corrections clearance
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk or move about facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients.
- Ability to speak with others in order to exchange information and provide support.
- Ability to proofread and check documents and files for accuracy on a regular basis.
- Ability to respond to telephones and pages, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises.
