Join our team as the Employee Relations Advisor! As the Employee Relations Advisor you would be responsible for providing support and counsel to Catholic Charities employees and managers on routine employee relations issues, including assisting with policy interpretation, the performance improvement process and related plans, investigations, and terminations. The Employee Relations Advisor assesses and anticipate HR-related needs including development and facilitation of training programs.
The successful candidate will have a strong background within employee relations, excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
The Expertise We’re Looking For
- You have a Bachelors Degree
- You have a Human Resources Professional Certificate or can obtain within 12 months of hire (SHRM CP/SCP, HCl PHR/SPHR)
- You have five years experience in Human Resources primarily handling employee relations
The Skills and Assets You Bring, and More
- You are bilingual in Spanish preferred
- You have familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws, and best practices into conducting workplace investigations and developing policies.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to establish credibility and rapport at all levels of an organization
- You have a high degree of discretion and commitment to confidentiality
- You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- You demonstrate candor and poise to field difficult questions from teammates and leaders; ability to discuss difficult issues with candor and kindness.
- You have strong consultative skills required to identify strategic objectives and to design/ lead of market-based solutions
- You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- You have experience working with HR Information Systems

You join Catholic Charities and help people in southeast Texas by providing caring, compassionate services and advocating for social justice in collaboration with parishes and communities.
What you Deliver
- You will investigate allegations of unlawful behavior and/or violations of Agency policy in compliance with federal/local law and Agency policy.
- You will lead investigative process from beginning to end including complainant intakes, subject teammate interviews, and review/analysis of documentation, policies, and all federal/state/local laws.
- You will partner collaboratively with leaders to ensure our workplace is safe - free from harassment and discrimination and fosters inclusion of all teammates.
- You will make recommendations regarding potential disciplinary measures, including terminations and/or coaching support based on investigative findings, ensuring consistency across the Agency.
- You will manage, with sensitivity and urgency, any workforce reorganizations, or reductions in keeping with required laws, best practices, and culture.
- You will teach leaders and partners best practices and thinking around Employee Relations trends.
- You will coordinate and co-facilitates training related to employee relations topics including performance improvement process, supervisory skills, providing feedback, terminations, etc.
- You will promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
- You will provide primary support for the preparation and documentation for unemployment hearings
- You will manage leave programs (FMLA/ADA/Workers’ Comp) in compliance with state and federal laws, policies and procedures.
- You will function in a full HRBP capacity to serve as a backup for time-off requests, vacations, projects etc. as needed.
