THE ROLE
Days for Girls UK is a small, registered charity in England and Wales. It works to improve the life chances of women and girls in the UK and overseas through the provision of menstrual Kits and menstrual health education. Its focus is on sustainable and locally led menstrual solutions. Days for Girls UK is a country-affiliate of Days for Girls International.
The Charity’s Objects (or mission) as presented to the Charity Commission are to promote and protect the good health and education of women and girls in low-income communities living in impoverished countries worldwide by:
a) the provision of menstrual care products and support in all matters related to all aspects of menstrual health education;
b) the support of individuals and organisations whose aim is to raise funds for uses consistent with these Objects of the Charity;
c) co-operation and collaboration with other UK and non-UK based charities and any other bodies in relation to the Objects and the provision of financial assistance for the charitable work of such other charities or bodies that are from time to time in any way concerned with the Objects of the Charity.
The Chair leads the Board of Trustees and, alongside fellow Trustees, works to ensure the effective stewardship, management and governance of the Charity. The Chair will be supported by the out-going Chair, through a comprehensive onboarding process, and with meetings arranged with the senior leadership of Days for Girls International as well as the UK Leadership Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Attend Board meetings and the bi-annual conference.
• Read the agenda and papers.

• Support the work of the Chair and Fellow Trustees to enable the Charity to fulfil its purpose and mission.
• Use their professional network to champion the work of the Charity where appropriate.
• Support the UK Country Coordinator through ad hoc meetings, offering professional advice and acting as a sounding board.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the Charity informed by their professional experience and expertise.
• Review policies and procedures and actively contributing to this process.
COMPETENCIES
Leadership:
• Previous experience of being on a Board.
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of being a trustee.
• Ability to constructively challenge current thinking, the method of governance and management of the organisation.
Interpersonal:
• Is able to actively listen and offer suggestions and ideas.
• Consultative and proactive approach, and sound independent judgement.
• Ability to consider information from a range of sources, without drawing rash conclusions.
• Willingness to support operational lead and volunteers.
