The Energy Market Modeller, Policy & Regulatory Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining energy market models, analyzing market trends, forecasting energy prices and demand, and evaluating the impact of policy and regulatory developments on energy markets.
The role combines quantitative modelling expertise with regulatory and policy analysis to support strategic planning, investment decisions, market reforms, regulatory engagement, and business growth.
The position requires a deep understanding of electricity, gas, renewable energy, and carbon markets, as well as the regulatory frameworks governing energy systems. The incumbent works closely with regulators, policymakers, system operators, utilities, market participants, and internal stakeholders to provide data-driven insights and recommendations.
The successful candidate is expected to undertake the following scope of work:
(1) Energy Market Modelling
- Develop, maintain, and enhance electricity, gas, renewable energy, and carbon market models.
- Forecast energy demand, generation capacity, fuel prices, wholesale electricity prices, and market outcomes.
- Conduct long-term and short-term market simulations.
- Analyze generation dispatch, transmission constraints, market clearing prices, and congestion impacts.
- Develop scenarios for energy transition, decarbonization, renewable integration, electrification, and emerging technologies.
- Evaluate investment opportunities through market modelling and financial analysis.
- Perform sensitivity and risk analysis to assess market uncertainties.
(2) Policy & Regulatory Analysis
- Monitor regulatory, legislative, and policy developments affecting energy markets.
- Assess the impact of market rules, regulatory frameworks, and policy changes on industry participants.
- Support regulatory consultations, submissions, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Prepare policy impact assessments and regulatory compliance analyses.
- Advise management on regulatory risks, opportunities, and strategic implications.
- Support market design reforms and regulatory change initiatives.
(3) Market Strategy & Advisory
- Provide strategic insights on energy market developments and future trends.
- Support business planning, market entry strategies, and investment decisions.
- Conduct economic and cost-benefit analyses of energy projects and policy initiatives.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and recommendations for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with commercial, trading, planning, legal, and regulatory teams.
