EE&M is seeking a full-time Learning Experience Designer responsible for designing sustainability-related learning solutions for professionals. As a Learning Experience Designer, you will apply instructional design methodologies to provide expertise and support in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. You will work closely with faculty, course development vendors, and the Assistant Director for Professional Programs.
The successful candidate will be excited to collaborate with other team members in projects and consultations that support faculty in their teaching of executives and professionals. In addition to demonstrating effectiveness in assessing learning needs and creative problem solving, the role requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. As we develop the portfolio of programs, the role requires flexibility with projects and a willingness to pivot if needs shift unexpectedly or with time.
In achieving these goals, the Learning Experience Designer’s responsibilities will include tasks such as:
- Uncover the unique teaching and learning needs specific to each course and/or program.
- Analyze learning goals and objectives to design, develop, and implement in person, online, and blended courses, programs, and activities according to instructional design principles and current research.
- Advise faculty on key issues, including course management, assessment methods, delivery strategies, pedagogy, accessibility, and inclusion.
- Collaborate with media production and technology development colleagues/vendors to support teaching and learning goals and enhance the student learning experience.
- Drive teaching excellence through classroom observations, individualized coaching, and recommendations to faculty about teaching strategies and techniques.
- Respond to faculty questions and comments in a timely, service-oriented manner, and refer faculty to relevant resources and learning solutions as appropriate.
- Draw on research and best practices from fields of learning, cognition, education and other relevant fields to inform the design of the learning experience. Stay abreast of educational technology research.
To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with faculty and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
- Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
In addition, our preferred qualifications include:
- Familiarity with the field of sustainability, ideally with content knowledge in the areas of climate, nature, and/or sustainable human life.
- Demonstrated skills in project management.
- Higher education or online education experience.
- Classroom teaching experience.
- Experience with online learning platforms and/or learning management systems, especially Coursera.
- Experience managing external vendors for video, graphics, and other media development.
