Maintenance Mechanic – Commercial and Residential Kitchen Equipment:
This Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice position is offered under the terms of the Stanford University and SEIU Apprenticeship Program. The purpose of this program is to train an Apprentice to be a Building Maintenance Mechanic with a Commercial and Residential Kitchen Equipment emphasis to support Residential and Dining Enterprise facilities maintenance needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work under general supervision and perform carpentry, automotive, and/or maintenance tasks of substantial complexity.
- Employees in this classification typically work within prescribed procedures but may make unique and innovative modifications as necessary to safely and expeditiously discharge their assigned work.
- Work may be spot-checked while in progress or inspected upon completion.
- May work alone, and/or as a member of a crew.
- Interact with kitchen staff, location faculty members, and students.
- Troubleshoot reported issues or complaints with kitchen equipment.
- Apply notes to service call work orders appropriately.
- Update dispatch, lead dept technician, and/or manager on the status of service calls daily; distinguish high-priority requests needing primary attention.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years old.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.
- Ability to work safely.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass an aptitude test (math, English, and critical thinking) with a score of at least 80%.
- Must be able to work full-time and attend evening educational classes.
- Ability to perform assigned work at a level appropriate for a Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing as needed.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
- Valid California Class C Noncommercial Driver’s License.
