Stanford University and UC Berkeley co-lead the Pacific Northwest AI Hardware Hub (“NW-AI Hub”), one of eight hubs in the CHIPS Act-funded, Microelectronics Commons. The administrative center of the NW-AI Hub is located on the Stanford campus. We seek an experienced technology manager with an entrepreneurial flair to establish and direct the operations of a new CXR business unit, providing CMOS+X prototyping and development services for the heterogeneous integration of commercial foundry devices (CMOS) with emerging and advanced technologies (X), by establishing design and process service routes (R). The ideal candidate is experienced in device processing and knowledgeable about service providers, from design through fabrication, packaging, and test. They should be keenly aware of emerging technologies in electronics and familiar with key players in this space. The CXR Technology Operations Director enable will be responsible for establishing the value proposition and revenue stream of this business unit. The role is to enable world-class researchers to turn their ideas into real devices using commercially viable process pathways. In this role, you will:
- Provide strategy and vision; make decisions that establish objectives for the overall direction and operation of the CXR business unit.
- Manage staff including recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating and setting priorities; manage business and technical activities of managers and technical experts supporting CXR.
- Identify, clarify, and resolve issues with strategic impact and substantial significance, which span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.
- Collaborate with others on the direction of activities relevant to long-term objectives of technology advancement and operational sustainability. Develop strategies to ensure effective achievement of objectives.
- Develop policies and procedures for the CXR business unit.
- Establish, oversee and manage financials and schedule for multiple projects.
- Negotiate with internal departments and external agencies with authority to commit resources and effort.
- Serve as a liaison to senior management, industry, and government agencies.
Education & Experience (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
- Experience leading, managing, motivating and developing technical staff.
- Experience leading complex scientific, engineering or technical research projects or programs.
- Detailed understanding of relevant business and technical knowledge and problem resolution.
- Ability to synthesize and articulate technical and scientific methodologies, specifications, and information.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
- Exceptional customer relationship and consensus building skills.
- Ability to influence and establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.
- Ability to resolve complex issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives in a collaborative culture.
Education & Experience (Desired):
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering or other field relating to device electronics.
- Extensive professional experience in device electronics, progressing from hands-on design, fabrication or integration, through technical management.
- Experience in technology transfer from prototyping to commercialization; working with multi-entity, external engagement.
