About the Role
We invite you to join our community as a Senior Cloud Operations Administrator. This role puts you at the forefront of managing Stanford University's critical compute and storage infrastructure, supporting both academic and administrative functions as well as Stanford Healthcare's essential services. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring our infrastructure remains secure, efficient, and adaptable to evolving needs.
As a subject matter expert, you will design, install, configure, optimize, and maintain complex operating system platforms. You will also develop strategic plans for long-term capacity utilization and provide advisory support for the university's information technology ecosystem.
This is a hybrid eligible role.
Responsibilities
As a Sr. Cloud Operations Administrator, you will:
- Managing Compute and Storage Infrastructure: Oversee the private cloud environment to ensure high performance and availability.
- Designing and Implementing Cloud Strategies: Lead initiatives to adopt emerging cloud technologies and drive continuous improvements. Serve as the organization administrator for AWS, GCP, and Azure, managing cloud accounts, policies, and configurations to ensure optimal performance, security, and cost-effectiveness across all platforms.
- Managing Enterprise Virtualization Platforms: Design, troubleshoot, and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms, addressing issues related to storage, networking, and performance.
- Developing Automated Workflows: Create and maintain automated workflows using vCenter Orchestrator to streamline operations.
- Ensuring System Stability: Maintain system stability and respond quickly to incidents, preventing disruptions to patient care, academic activities, and administrative operations.
- Overseeing Security and Compliance: Ensure data security and regulatory compliance, especially in healthcare-related systems.
- Optimizing Resource Utilization: Enhance efficiency and reduce costs by optimizing compute and storage resources.
- Mentoring Team Members: Develop the skills of junior team members to build a resilient Hosting Services team.
- Establishing Service Levels: Ensure client server infrastructure maintains full operational capability.
- Collaborating on Incident Response and Disaster Recovery: Partner with IT personnel to create and maintain incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
You will also:
- Lead the development, installation, and maintenance of operating systems, utilities, and software on computing systems.
- Anticipate risks, resolve issues, and prevent emergencies to protect system operations and data integrity.
- Formulate and implement system security strategies, policies, and procedures that align with best practices.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to confirm strategies, assess the technical feasibility of initiatives, and ensure system compatibility within the university’s framework.
- Conduct capacity planning for system configurations, software services, network services, and load distribution.
- Serve as a technical expert or lead in university-wide system administration, potentially managing system administration staff.
- Manage large-scale computing projects and vendor relationships, including negotiating maintenance agreements.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Cloud Operations Experience: Significant experience managing compute and storage infrastructure in a private cloud environment.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and maintenance at the enterprise level.
- Security and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of data security standards and regulatory frameworks, such as HIPAA.
- Leadership Skills: Experience leading and mentoring technical teams, with a focus on collaboration and skill development.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong skills in troubleshooting complex issues related to storage, networking, and performance.
- Commitment to Excellence: A proven track record of optimizing systems and maintaining high service levels.
