WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
Provide daily lead functions. Perform basic and advanced donor and patient tests and interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility. Resolve compatibility problems; provide complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples. Adhere to explicit standard operating procedures and interpret test results in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
- Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities, to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
- Manage daily workflow including patient and donor work, including ordering, receiving, inspecting, and preparing reagents.
- Perform and interpret basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control, as appropriate to state and federal regulations. Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution, and resolve the problem.
- Assist lab assistants, technicians, and technologists in problem resolution. Perform labeling and verification of blood products. Maintain, edit, and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping. Also perform maintenance, repair and validation of laboratory equipment and software maintenance.
- Perform record review, training, competency assessments, and general oversight of daily activities. Perform internal and external customer education. Assist in concern and problem management and quality improvement activities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry with MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification required. SBB (ASCP) preferred. Licensure if required by state.
- Experience: Minimum 6 years of blood banking experience including high complexity testing or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Skills & Abilities: Effective communication/interpersonal skill and excellent technical skills required, ability to work on a team.
