WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
We are currently seeking an innovative recovery professional to serve as a Senior Community Recovery Manager for the Hurricane Helene NC & TN Long-Term Recovery Program. This position will reside within an assigned geographic area in Western North Carolina.
This is a term-limited, benefits eligible position expected to last 24 months with the opportunity to extend based on business need.

The Hurricane Helene NC & TN Long-Term Recovery Senior Community Recovery Manager reports to the Director, Long-Term Recovery and serves as the Community Recovery leader in an assigned geography when a Recovery Program is implemented post-disaster. The Senior Manager manages the implementation of the community recovery program, which includes acting as a convenor, facilitative leader, and problem solver in recovery efforts in the impacted communities. Leads and manages a team of Community Recovery Managers. Plan, direct, and implement department and program overall strategic goals and objectives. The Senior Manager will utilize an established strategy to develop and/or participate with Long Term Recovery Groups, Unmet Needs committees, and other coalitions of community leaders and stakeholders that will then identify and act on recovery priorities. This role will work closely with regional, chapter, and National Headquarters volunteers and employees.
This is a hybrid position working in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Frequent travel to the communities impacted by Hurricane Helene for meetings and other activities will be required. Candidate living within 50 miles of Asheville NC are preferred.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
- Direct, coordinate, manage and support community recovery staff. Produce plans and reports as required.
- Supporting the grants, individual resilience, preparedness efforts to maximize reach and impact in vulnerable communities.
- Working in partnership with community leaders and stakeholders to
- Conduct community assessments to understand the impact of the storm, response and recovery efforts to date, and assess the gaps between needs and resources;
- Conduct strategic planning for community recovery interventions and facilitate meetings and broker action among multiple community sectors;
- Manage and direct outreach activities such as establishing contacts and attending community meetings;
- Direct the establishment and maintaining effective working relationships with community agencies, schools, businesses, various levels of government and the general public;
- Monitoring progress through collecting data– both qualitative and quantitative.
- Ensure that American Red Cross and partner services are available to diverse communities.
- Communication and coordination of external activities with internal Red Cross departments (Disaster Cycle Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Chapter Executive Directors, etc.) to ensure a common operating picture is shared.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
Skills & Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of program or service and ability to create presentations and develop training modules. Develop project plans, budgets, and strategies to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements. Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management. Ability for planning, public speaking, project management and process improvement required. Must be customer oriented, organized, and able to operate with an orientation toward solutions with an external focus, and team orientation. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends. Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws. Must be able to perform all assigned responsibilities under “grey sky” requirements. Ensure all American Red Cross finance policies and procedures are followed as related to the scope of work activity. Ability to work on a team.
Deployment Requirement: Disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development and exposure to different types of disasters. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment. Must have a Valid Driver’s License
