With assistance from ARC of Lane County and financial backing from John Alvord, our first group home was opened in 1970. In 1974, Alvord-Taylor was incorporated as a non-profit organization in Eugene, Oregon, with a vision of providing a Vibrant and unified community for all. We now operate thirteen homes where we provide 24-hour care to individuals, in addition to our supported living program, which assists clients in being as independent as possible.

Position Summary
Our Behavioral Support Specialists are responsible for the continuous objective analysis of the Positive Behavioral Support Programming for the individuals served at Alvord-Taylor. The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for the development of Positive Behavior Support Plans according to licensing-related rules and regulations as well as Alvord-Taylor policies and procedures. Behavioral Support Specialists work closely with our Program Managers and Direct Support Professionals to ensure Positive Behavior Support Plans are carried out according to guidelines.

Responsibilities

Proactively develops and reviews team-based Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) and Interaction Guidelines. Creates and reviews Functional Behavior Assessments. Reviews Positive Behavior Support Plans and Functional Behavior Assessments annually (at a minimum).
Collaborates and assists in the creation of Person-Centered Plans.
Develops Data Tracking Mechanisms for accurate assessment of plan implementation.
Ensures plans and documents adhere to OAR standards and requirements as well as Alvord-Taylor policies and procedures.
Participates in and responds to Behavioral Crisis Management. Assists supported individuals with intense psychiatric and behavioral events.
Collaborates in intake process.
Educates Program Manager to PBSP training and systems and collaborates with Program Manager to ensure staff education, timelines, and success. Collaborates with Program Manager and/or Program Director to ensure program team training is provided when needed in response to specific individual issues.
Collaborates with training department to develop and implement behavior-related education. Leads OIS Certification Training as needed. Educates staff on behavior-specific issues.
Communicates issues of non-compliance and quality to Management.
Other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements:

Possess a Master of Arts or Master of Science in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent AND one (1) year of experience usingpositive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Possess a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent AND three (3) years of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities.
A minimum of six (6) years of experience performing professional behavior services using positive behavior support services prior to January 1, 2021.

Proven abilities in:

Developing and implementing behavioral documentation systems in compliance with OARs
Application of Oregon Administrative rules to specific situations
Understanding of the ISP process
OIS Trainer Certification, or the ability to become certified

A behavior professional must meet all of the following requirements:

Be proficient in the English language.
Maintain a current approved criminal background check specific to their role as a behavior professional as described in OAR 407-007- 0200 through 407-007-0370.
Complete a minimum of 12 hours each enrollment period of ongoing education in the field of positive behavior support services, adaptive behaviors, behavior management, or a related topic.
Maintain certification in an ODDS-approved behavior intervention curriculum.
Must obtain and maintain, with agency assistance, certification in First Aid and CPR, Mandatory Abuse Reporting, Blood-borne Pathogens, and Oregon Interventions Systems (OIS) (Note: all training is paid and provided by Alvord-Taylor.
