FUNCTIONS: Facilitates a positive teaching and training atmosphere conducive to Resident growth and development by providing direct behavioral support and skill acquisition. This position requires understanding of positive behavioral approaches to implement programming as directed by behavioral and habilitation implementation plans. This position is responsible for immediate and accurate documentation of programming and interventions services. Effective coordination with the behaviorist, supervisors, and co-workers are required to maintain a high quality of life for the residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Care and Services:
Provides direct care and duties for individual/resident care
Verbal and non-verbal interactions with individuals reflect caring and respect
Promotes and insures individual rights upheld
Communicates with consultants as needed in effort to provide care for residents and full understanding of behavior approaches to training

Completes or coordinates recreation activities per IPP goals with a focus on skill acquisition and behavioral interactions.
Conducts assessments to implement and revise goals for residents under BCBA guidance
Facilitates collection of baselines for programming efforts
Implements program modifications as designated by the behavior and habilitation plans
Directly coordinates team during skill acquisition and behavioral interventions RBT
Provides 1:1 and group teaching and training to direct care staff
Coordinates staff to engage in specific duties as designated on implementation plan

Maintains and enhances understanding of positive behavior strategies and antecedent interventions

Implements and coordinates transportation to medical appointments
Attends required monthly meetings and trainings to maintain programmatic and behavioral integrity
Maintains a person centered and least restrictive approach in resident care according to BIP and IPP
Reports to immediate supervisor as needed

Support and provide personal care as needed

Completes work orders as necessary to maintain quality environment

Completes assessments of environment as directed by immediate supervisor

Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
With supervisor, responsible for hiring and firing of direct care staff designated facilities

ENVIRONMENT OF CARE: Demonstrates understanding of fire and emergency procedures, participates in fire and disaster drills, demonstrates understanding of safety and security procedures, applies safety and security precautions, demonstrates understanding of hazardous material plan and demonstrates proper use of equipment. Maintains a clean and safe environment at all times.

INFECTION CONTROL: Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the work place and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination. Upholds residential safety and medical policies.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect, seeks feedback, sets clear standards for performance, evaluates job performance and provides effective feedback, establishes systems to measure effectiveness, efficiency and service and creates and maintains reporting mechanisms.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attends in-service and education programs as designated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk: use hands or fingers; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop or kneel. The employee will assist to transfer residents of varied weights and sizes. The employee will follow facility protocol on use of mechanical lifts and transfer devices. The employee will assist in behavioral physical interventions as designated by behavioral plans utilizing emergency and PCM procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Pass a level II DCF background check

3 References
Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience working with a dependent population or, an associate’s degree and 2 years of experience or, a bachelor’s degree
Certification in CPR and First aid, kept current

Certification in reactive strategy techniques
