Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM) is seeking an exceptional and inclusive leader to serve as Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). The CPO serves as a key executive leadership team member and active participant in making organizational strategic decisions to finance the organization’s growth and development.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CPO is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan for developing key community alliances by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The CPO identifies and addresses development issues that affect the resources necessary for funding of the organization’s programs and operations through major gifts, annual campaign, endowment, planned giving, and grants.

Position Summary:

The Chief Philanthropy Officer will bring a genuine passion for GSEM’s mission coupled with proven experience as a fundraising and organizational development professional, with several years’ management experience and demonstrated track record of cultivating up to seven-figure gifts. The CPO will oversee and manage a team of fund development professionals with a high degree of self-direction and initiative. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CPO will model and support effective, ongoing cross-departmental partnerships that intersect fundraising, board governance, programming, and infrastructure.

The position is full-time with a competitive benefit package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as generous paid time off and a retirement plan. Job experience is considered with the salary offer; the minimum starting salary for this position is $129,000.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership Giving

Direct, design, organize and implement strategy to segment, prospect, cultivate, solicit, and grow leadership and major givers.
Direct staff and volunteers to develop strategies to grow the number of leadership givers.
Develop effective donor management and retention programs to increase the share of dollars directed to GSEM from current and new donors.
Develop sponsorships and provide support for events such as GSEM’s flagship fundraising event, Dessert First.
Identify and develop endowment and planned giving prospects.
Manages the organization’s affinity groups, giving societies, and giving circles.

Annual Campaign

Design, organize, direct, and implement strategy to increase the overall number of annual campaign donors and address donor attrition.
Support effective donor management strategies focused on continuous growth in donor retention and level of giving while increasing the share of dollars directed to GSEM from current and new donors.
Develop alliances as appropriate with corporate, government and private partners.

Administrative Management

Build and lead a diverse Fund Development team that enables the organization to succeed; hire the right people; demand high performance and results; ensure staff’s work is aligned with mission and strategy.
Develop and implement strategic long-range plans for Philanthropy and Annual Campaign fundraising efforts; track/report results.
Establish, monitor, and administer budget and expenses within budgetary requirements, including planning and managing budget line items for specific outcomes.
Counsel and assist staff in professional growth and development within GSEM and the community. Conduct timely performance evaluations.

Strategic Positioning

Set priorities decisively but collaboratively, delegate responsibilities, ensure accountability, and allocate resources to ensure results.
Convert strategy into effective execution, offer creative, practical ideas to achieve GSEM strategic direction and goals.
Partner with the CEO on a clear vision for fundraising for the organization.
Be a catalyst for growth and change inspiring all to think entrepreneurially and welcoming new ideas.
Integrate diverse perspectives with ease while leading the organization through an equitable lens.

Qualifications

Requirements:

1. Adherence to Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri policies and procedures

2. Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA

3. Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

4. Willingness to travel as job requires

5. Capability to provide own transportation and maintain operator license

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Public Relations, or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
Demonstrated portfolio of fundraising success in cultivating up to seven-figure gifts.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to research individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift giving.
Ability to effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors.
Ability to write grant applications and fundraising proposals.
Ability to strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff as well as donors, community partners, vendors and other stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking, training, facilitation, administrative and interpersonal skills.

Ability to strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns.

Must possess a valid driver license, current auto insurance, and daily access to a reliable vehicle.
Able to travel regularly to meet with donors and/or attend special events.

A track record of working with volunteer boards and committees and a wide range of operational volunteers.

If your position requires that you drive an average of one (1) day per week or more, you must possess a valid state driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is in a non-confined office setting in which they are free to move about at will. The environment for this position is clean and comfortable.

EXPOSURES

Work is performed in a normal indoor environment with limited exposure to outdoors.
