JOB SUMMARY

A program of the Homeless Alliance, Curbside Apparel is a social enterprise screen printing shop offering supportive employment and on the job training to people transitioning out of homelessness in Oklahoma City. The Curbside Apparel Production Specialist is responsible for supporting the Assistant Manager in overseeing and managing operations of the screen-printing shop from actual screen printing to training. This includes helping prepare and execute print jobs, coaching and training our program participants on all aspects of the screen-printing process, delegating tasks, providing quality control, maintaining an orderly shop, and providing customer support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Produce print products including shirts, bags, posters, and other apparel and flat stock items.
Operate automatic and manual screen-printing presses with the ability to maintain fast and consistent load times.
Burn, tape, and clean screens, operate a heat press, and other machines and processes related to the production and printing process.
Work alongside program participants demonstrating proper techniques, providing direction, and coaching people who are new to the production process and who have barriers to traditional employment.
Schedule, supervise, train, and delegate duties to program participants.
Support daily operations and monitor production processes to ensure quality and timeliness.
Regularly review program participant performance considering product quality, speed, and other factors, providing feedback and support when needed. Conduct on-going assessment of the program participants’ needs from a strength focused, solution-based perspective.
Assist program participants in achieving their defined goals and advocate for services needed to meet their obligations of employment. Monitor participants’ progress and needs, addressing any immediate concerns and quickly communicating problems to supervisors and case managers.
Nurture a positive work environment and demonstrate patience.
Help maintain proper records including properly submitting and storing client files, purchase receipts, and other business and program-related documents.
Transport program participants as needed.
Establish and maintain working relationships with community partners including, wholesale distributors, customers, and nonprofit partners.
Clean and maintain a healthy, safe, and sanitary work environment.

Qualifications

Dedication to providing meaningful employment and job training to people transitioning out of homelessness.
Ability to work alongside individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities, including physical and cognitive disabilities, substance abuse disorders, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, and other barriers and be able to develop rapport, provide oversight, and refer with sensitivity to cultural issues.
Patience and understanding working with people of different ability levels, experiences, and beliefs.
Time management in daily work and tasks as well as in both short and long-term projects. Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects and deadlines at once.

Attention to detail with a commitment to quality work and an ability to provide feedback on imperfections and coaching on how to improve them.
Strong logic and decision-making skills with the ability to discern how to handle situations and when issues need to be elevated to supervisors.
Ability to remain calm in a demanding environment with tight deadlines while overseeing multiple program participants.
Excellent customer service skills, including a friendly personality and positive attitude. Must greet customers and respond to their questions in a courteous, fast, friendly, and helpful manner.
Strong reading, listening, and speaking skills.
Ability to set and observe appropriate boundaries.
Ability to excel in a diverse, collaborative team environment.
Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate busy periods on evenings or weekends.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES

Valid Oklahoma driver’s license & proof of insurance
Knowledgeable about the screen-printing process.
Experience with screen printing including operating a manual press and heat press. Experience operating an automatic press a plus.
Experience coaching, teaching, or with case management a plus.
Computer literate; experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, Internet.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and squat.
Must be able to lift/move weight up to 40 lbs.
Will be regularly exposed to inks, cleaners, and other screen-printing liquids.
Must have the manual dexterity to perform all duties of screen printing including accurately and efficiently loading shirts and operating a manual press.
Ability to execute repetitious movement.
The noise level is quiet to moderate; non-smoking environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee will work in a production shop. Hectic situations could occur characteristic to working with people experiencing homelessness and the concerns and situations related to homeless conditions. Potential exists for volatile and unpredictable situations to occur. Exposure to strong odors such as soiled clothes and poor hygiene, can happen.
