As the Fundraising Manager you play a critical role in supporting ADRA Canada’s fundraising efforts. The Fundraising Manager is a high performer that embodies ADRA Canada’s values of being Connected, Courageous and Compassionate; and has a proven track record for leveraging expertise in fundraising strategies, donor relations, and campaign/event management to drive revenue growth through creative and impactful campaigns.
Reporting to: Philanthropy & Marketing Director
Location: ADRA Canada Headquarters in Newcastle, ON, Canada.
Travel: 20% (predominantly nationally, but occasional international travel may be required)
Work Hours: 38 hours per week with a 4-day work week option as well as hybrid option (3 days in office and 1 day work from home).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Seventh-day Adventist Church Relations/Ministry (10% of each workweek)
- Participate in daily worship and prayers. All employees take turns in leading worship for all employees.
- Be prepared to counsel callers (including church members and others) on role of Seventh-day Adventist mission and pray with them.
- Encourage partners (including Seventh-day Adventist Conferences and congregations in Canada, other Canadian and foreign Seventh-day Adventist entities and the worldwide ADRA network) in the mission of ADRA and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Educate them, as necessary, about the ministry role of ADRA Canada as part of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church movement, consistent with the religious teachings of the Church.
- As requested, contribute to corporate publications, and represent ADRA Canada and its mission at presentations/speaker appointment requests, particularly with ADRA Canada’s partners.
- Ensure that all ADRA Canada activities are carried out in accordance with the values and religious beliefs of the ADRA network and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- As part of the ADRA Canada ministry, act in a way that reflects the religious beliefs and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, both on and off duty.
B. Operations/Technical (90% of each work week)
FUNDRAISING ANALYSIS, STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION (25%)
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies to meet revenue goals set by the organization.
- Coordinate fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor and report on fundraising progress, including revenue projections and expenses.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals and programs.
- Stay informed about fundraising trends, best practices, emerging opportunities and legal requirements to enhance skills and expertise in the field.
DONOR PORTFOLIO RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (25%)
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors based on their interests, giving history, and alignment with ADRA’s mission to increase the level of philanthropic support.
- Develop & implement strategies to attract and retain donors, including individuals, businesses, and organizations to support ADRA’s mission and programs.
- Enhance donor engagement and involvement to deepen relationships through personalized communication, donor recognition programs, events, volunteer opportunities, and other engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with communications and programs staff to ensure coordinated and effective donor engagement strategies.
- Promote and facilitate planned giving opportunities to secure long-term support for the organization and build a sustainable funding base.
- Track interactions with donors and record relevant information to ensure personalized and strategic relationship management.
- Donor recognition and stewardship in liaison with the stewardship unit.
- Impact Reporting – monitor, evaluate and report on fundraising performance including key metrics, outcomes and impact, to inform strategic decision-making and demonstrate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts and ADRA’s work.
- Ensure adherence to ethical fundraising practices, legal regulations, reporting requirements, and maintain transparency and accountability in all fundraising activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including board members, senior leadership, program staff and volunteers, as well as external partners and community leaders to advance fundraising goals.
- Stay informed of best practices in donor relationship management to continue to improve strategies and approaches.
SMALL GRANT WRITING AND MANAGEMENT (10%)
- Identify potential small foundation opportunities that align with ADRA’s mission and cultivate relationships with these organizations through regular communication and engagement.
- Write compelling small foundation proposals and reports and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Collaborate with the Partnerships for Impact department as needed.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT (15%)
- Organize fundraising campaigns and events to raise awareness and funds for ADRA.
- Develop and implement public relations strategies to promote fundraising campaigns and events through media outreach, press releases and social media.
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, organizations, churches and community groups to support fundraising efforts through sponsorship, donations or event collaboration.
- Attend community events, meetings and networking functions to build relationships and raise awareness of ADRA’s work.
- Provide opportunities for the community to get involved in fundraising, such as peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns or community/church fundraising challenges
TEAM LEADERSHIP (15%)
- Assist the departmental director/designate in facilitating a safe and positive culture within the fundraising team consistent with ADRA Canada's values of being Connected, Courageous and Compassionate.
- Assist the departmental director/designate with supervising, mentoring, and developing a high performing fundraising team, fostering a culture of learning to meet expected outcomes.
- Conduct regular performance assessment of assigned fundraising staff in line with ADRA Canada's performance assessment guidelines.
- Ensure the team is equipped with the information, skills and tools needed to execute their roles effectively.
- Lead weekly check-in meetings with assigned staff.
- Liase closely with the departental director to analyze fundraising process gaps, drive process improvements and standardize procedures and tools.
- Assist the departmental director/designate to maximize human resources ensuring a balance of workloads and awareness of various fundraising requirements among the team.
- Contribute to departmental meetings by providing updates on fundraising successes, challenges, support needs etc.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in fundraising or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in fundraising, achieving annual revenue targets.
- 6-7 years of experience in team leadership.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or willingness to work towards certification.
- A citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the ability to legally work in Canada, by virtue of holding a current valid work permit.
- Skilled in Relating & Networking – Able to establish good relationships with colleagues and donors etc., and build wide and effective fundraising networks. Experienced with donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Excellent Presentation and Communication Skills – Able to speak clearly, persuasively and fluently in English; and can express opinions, information and key points of an argument clearly.
- Excellent Leading and Supervising Skills - Able to provide others with clear direction and set appropriate standards of behaviour.
- Able to apply specialist and detailed fundraising expertise - Strong understanding of federal and provincial legislation affecting charities, as well as fundraising principles, strategies, techniques and technology.
- Strong sales acumen with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Highly proficient computer skills in fundraising databases, including strategic use of donor data, and Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
- Collaborative attitude with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and support colleagues in achieving fundraising objectives.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to gender equality issues and a commitment to programming that respects and protects the human rights of all people, including an active commitment to the rights of women and girls.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Master’s degree in fundraising or a related field.
- High proficiency in all Microsoft Office products.
- Insert written or oral communication skills in French.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Mail Chimp etc.
- Experience in fundraising for a not for profit.
- Grant writing experience.
