Purpose/Summary
Reading Partners is an education nonprofit that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to aspiring elementary student readers.
This position will help our organization be able to reach our goal of serving over 500 students this school year in local Denver schools.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tutors will work one on one with a student from a local elementary school and provide reading instruction on a consistent basis throughout the school year.
Some of these schools include: Harris Park Elementary, Stevens Elementary, International Academy of Denver at Harrington, or Place Bridge Academy.
This involves meeting weekly with the student and working through a lesson plan provided by Reading Partners.
A willingness and eagerness to learn tutoring strategies. Demonstrated patience and empathy for students while holding high expectations. An ability to interact effectively with diverse groups. Commitment to your student and tutoring schedule.
Students will gain experience in literacy tutoring and effectively support elementary students’ academic progress, and time management. We will also train on public education system-level challenges and REDI/DEI/Equity in education.
Areas of study that fit well here are typically education, childhood development, and other studies in the social sciences. This is done in a school setting and would provide a great experience to students in that field of how the education system works and impacts the students that attend.
