We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Shelter Assistant, specializing in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a Shelter Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support, advocacy, and resources to individuals and families seeking refuge and safety from abusive situations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct support and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children residing in the shelter.
Assist with the intake process for new residents, ensuring their immediate needs are met.
Collaborate with shelter staff to create a safe and supportive living environment for residents.
Conduct safety assessments and develop safety plans with residents.
Facilitate support groups and educational workshops on topics related to domestic violence and sexual assault.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.
Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault strongly preferred.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and crisis intervention techniques.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.

Additional Expectations

To ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals we serve, a criminal background screening, including Child and Dependent Adult Abuse registry check is required for all employees and volunteers. Conviction of a crime will not automatically disqualify you from employment; the nature, severity, and recency of the crime will be considered in relation to the position.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Salary Description

Starting $20/hour (+ $2/hour nights/weekends)
