Position Summary
The Kitchen Assistant supports daily food service in the residential facility. This role is responsible for preparing dinner each evening, following a set menu, and preparing weekend heat-and-serve meals for staff use. The Kitchen Assistant also helps keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards. Occasional support at a second location may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare daily dinners for youth based on the set menu.
- Prepare and package weekend heat-and-serve meals for staff use.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen.
- Follow Safe-Serve and food safety standards at all times.
- Assist with basic menu prep under the direction of the Kitchen Manager.
- Label, store, and handle food safely.
- Monitor inventory and notify the Kitchen Manager when supplies are low.
- Assist at the second facility when needed.
- Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–2 years of experience cooking for groups or in a kitchen setting.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Safe-Serve Certification required, or must be obtained immediately after hire.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work the scheduled shifts, including Friday evenings.
- Occasional driving or travel between locations may be required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of kitchen tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in a warm or fast-paced kitchen environment.
