The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation is seeking a curious, analytical, and impact driven Prospect Research Analyst to join our Philanthropy & Stakeholder Engagement team. This role is critical to advancing our fundraising success by uncovering insights that inform strategy, strengthen donor relationships, and support transformational philanthropy for health care in Alberta.
Reporting to the
Vice President, Philanthropy & Stakeholder Engagement, the Prospect Research Analyst works at the intersection of data, research, strategy, and philanthropy. This proactive self-starter identifies, analyzes, and interprets information on prospective donors, individuals, corporations, and foundations to support major gift fundraising and long-term donor engagement. Through thoughtful research, data analysis, and collaboration, the Analyst delivers clear, actionable insights that help our fundraising teams focus their efforts where they matter most.

Key Accountabilities
Prospect Research & Analysis
- Conduct accurate, in-depth research using online, electronic, and print resources to support fundraising initiatives.
- Develop clear, insightful prospect profiles that summarize background, philanthropic interests, giving capacity, and connections to the Foundation.
- Prepare confidential research deliverables, including snapshots, profiles, and briefing notes, using Raiser’s Edge for internal teams.
- Identify, screen, and qualify new donor prospects through data-mining techniques and research tools.
- Monitor and share relevant donor information, financial data, news, and trends that may impact fundraising strategies.
- Stay current with best practices, tools, and emerging technologies in prospect research and analytics.
Data Management & Reporting
- Ensure donor and prospect records in Raiser’s Edge are accurate, current, and maintained according to established data standards.
- Track research activity to support internal metrics and performance evaluation.
- Handle and store sensitive donor and prospect information with exceptional care and discretion.
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports within the CRM to support timely decision-making.
- Lead a monthly prospect meeting to identify actions, priorities, and next steps for proposals and key prospects.
Team Support & Strategic Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Development Associate to manage the prospect clearance process and align research with fundraising strategies.
- Assist in determining solicitation ranges and assigning prospects to appropriate philanthropy leads.
- Support philanthropy staff with portfolio management, engagement strategies, and pipeline development.
- Explore new approaches to uncover untapped philanthropic potential within diverse communities and emerging donor segments.
- Contribute to the annual prospect research plan, aligning priorities with organizational goals and financial targets.
- Uphold strict confidentiality in accordance with Foundation privacy policies and APRA ethical standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of new fundraising programs and initiatives.
- Participate in signature events, including follow-up and evaluation to inform future planning.
- Assist with donor stewardship activities, communications, and recognition efforts.
- Provide flexible support across teams for priority projects and special initiatives as needed.
Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies
- Post-secondary education in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one year of professional experience in the non-profit sector, ideally within health care or a hospital foundation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to synthesize large volumes of information into clear, actionable insights.
- Proven discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative, proactive team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated research and analytical capabilities.
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge (or similar CRM) and Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Power BI.
Assets
- Education in
Data Analytics, Psychology, or Library and Information Studies.
- Solid understanding of the fundraising cycle and donor engagement strategies.
- Familiarity with a wide range of research tools and paid databases (e.g., iWave, CharityCan), analytics platforms, government resources, and professional organizations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, and travel locally as required.
