Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision and guidance of the Co-COO, this position is responsible for the development and administration of adult and youth sports programs. The Sports Director should have strong people skills, organizational and administrative skills, including program development, supervision of staff and volunteers, financial development, and member service.
This director will develop and implement new programs into the YMCA during the course of her/his employment. Must believe in the YMCA’s philosophy and mission and be willing to teach, model, and implement character development values into all they oversee. This position is considered a professional-level position and is an exempt salaried position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. The programs of responsibility are seasonal, and some seasons may require more than 40 hours per week. Expected hours will include most evenings and some weekend hours during various sports seasons.
Current Department Programs: Basketball, Baseball, Softball & T-ball Recreational, Soccer, Volleyball Coed, Men’s Softball, Coed Flag Football, Rock Climbing, Tumbling, Karate, After School Sports, Pickleball, Summer Sports Camps.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in P.E., Recreation, or equivalent experience. Minimum age of 21 years old. Must have a strong base of knowledge of a variety of sports and their game rules. Must be able to demonstrate and coach fundamental skills in a variety of sports and recreational activities. Proficiency in office-related technology, computer systems, and software in addition to multiple social media platforms. Must excel in skills that include problem-solving, communication, organization, relationship building, and multitasking. Ability to supervise, train, and support a diverse group of program staff and volunteers. Must work a schedule that reflects the needs of YMCA programming. Availability to work evenings and weekends during various sports seasons and recreational programs throughout the year. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform all essential functions and to lead all program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations and environments. Must clear a background/criminal history check.
Essential Functions
1. Oversees all operations of Veteran’s Park as stated in the agreement with the city of Lake Geneva. Must be available for supervision of all programs.
2. Responsible for planning, preparing, delivering youth and adult sports programs including all marketing.
3. Responsible for developing strong volunteer participation through recruiting, training, supervising and scheduling volunteers & officials for quality programs. Includes supervising practices, games, volunteers, making schedules along with conducting coach, parent and official trainings.
4. May transport and set up equipment for games and practices. Purchases & distributes uniforms, awards, coordinators team photos. Umpires when necessary.
5. Responsible for supervising all duties of the Sports Coordinator. Will be responsible for making sure fields are groomed for programs/tournaments if not completed by the Coordinator.
6. Develops and implements a new program into the YMCA.
7. Assists with the development of special YMCA family and youth events and any yearly special events.
8. Helps ensure quality control standards and participants' safety.
9. Follows the association’s financial and purchasing procedures.
10. Responsible for supervising all aspects of the field maintenance worker and their duties. If there is no field maintenance work, you are responsible for field preparation for programs and/or tournaments.
11. Maintain a professional demeanor. Proficient communicator with other departments, parents, coaches, umpires, players, and staff.
12. Develop department budget.
13. Coordinates and leads summer sport camps and all other duties assigned.
Pre-hire: Completion of the YMCA’s Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention courses
Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of Lifeguard certification, CPR, First Aid, AED.

Required Certifications
